AVB
The Mrs wanted a new patio so I said to get the builders in. This is what I came home to! I think she has gone over the top. The brickies are in today doing the wall. I'll post some more pics later.
AVB
And I thought they would mix the cement in a small cement mixer. There were actually two cement lorries delivering the stuff Edited February 27, 2011 by AVB

FalconFN
Patio......or swimming pool?
AVB
Patio......or swimming pool? Definitely a patio! The problem is the the garden slopes and so a retaining wall had to be built and the area levelled. The cement was for the foundations for the wall. crosshair
That patio is bigger than Fred West's.

Mungler
Is the main drive concrete with the gravel pressed / rolled into it? If so, when did you get it done and how are you getting on with it?
AVB
It's resin bonded. We had tar bonded originally and it was pants. Bald spots within months. We've had the new drive down about two years now and it's fine. No sign of wear at all. The original laying wasn't perfect with a few patches where the surface was a bit 'shiny', apparently due to dust going down rather than gravel. It was meant to be fixed under warranty but, and it happens quite frequently, the company went 'bust'. That said it doesn't bother me much and the general wear has been good. +

I can pass on some contact details if you want, had a cold call the other day - "binworkinginthearea&haveaweedraptarleftower-d'yewantyerdrivetarred?" at least I think that's what he said :yp:

charliebrown
Resin Bonded (basically resin laid as a thin coat then dry aggregate sprinkled on top) systems are more for pedestrian use really, they are not great for vehicle traffic as they can show wear. The Resin Bound (basically dry aggregate and resin mixed together then trowlled down at about 20mm thick) system is ideal for drives, but due to the extra resin and aggregate will obviously work out more expensive. Aggregate rolled into tarmac or concrete just looks ****. Nuff said.
AVB
We have just had a letter from the Council saying that "a neighbour has expressed concern that we are building a two story extension without permission and can we contact them to arrange a visit". I don't understand 1) why they think we are (other than the JCB, cement pump and two cement lorries) and 2) why the concerned neighbour didn't just knock and ask. ****** neighbours. AVB
I did feel a bit guilty about the brickies turning up on sunday morning and starting their cement mixer up at 08:00. I don't anymore.

Acid House
He will probably make you rip the lot out. I dont suppose your builder mentioned the progression of retaining aggrigates and soils act 1975. Wrong brick mate should be seven newton engineering brick backed with a micropourous membrane and the lack of an encapsulated clean stone barrier and drain behind the wall renderes it a fail on about four regulations. Still he will enjoy the cup of tea.............
