Pigeon poachers

You are not going to believe this one.

Back in October last year we had pigeon decoy poachers from local pigeon shooting club turn up on ground where they did not have permission to shoot.

I phoned the local farmer where I shoot the weekend before and asked when they where going to cut the maze. Simon told me on Saturday and if you and Alan want to go out sunday that would be good.

Saturday morning I drove up to Gloucester and past the farm with the tractors driving around cutting the maze. My phone rung as I was on the motorway and when got to Gloucester, I pulled into a layby and checked the phone. It was Simon. I called him back.

He was cross, very cross, steaming, "That bloodly XXX XXXXX " he said, he did name him but I should not write it here.

"He turn up this morning with five 4x4's with seven guns to shoot the maze field as they where cutting it. They where already in the field shooting when he phoned me, I told him, he could not shoot".

He when on "I put the phone down and Bang! Bang! came for the bottom field. By now Alan was here, he went down and told them to go, **** *** was the words he used. As he was tell them to go Bang Bang, where was still guns out in the field after they that been told to go."

Simon explained that they where going to shoot the field with seven guns as they where still cutting the maze. Simon felt that they should not be shooting, 1st they did not have permission to shoot and 2nd because it was unsafe the shoot as they where still cutting the maze and that there was too many people out for that small field for it to be safe.

The main man from the local Pigeon Shooting Club thought because he know the farmer that rents the ground and shoot on one of the other farms he rents ground, it was all right for the club to shoot Simon’s famr.

"I phoned you to bring you camera up and do a story for your youtube channel and help us get rid of them." Simon told me.

I told him they where shooting down below my house last year and they shoot the window out of my next door neighbours. I've seen photos of them shooting and they even have a gun shooting off the combine. I told the chairman of the pigeon shooting club that it was unsafe to shoot for the combine. He thought that the seat on the combine was for a gun. Ha Ha LOL.

Simon asked me if I could tell his story. “I’m telling everyone he was poaching on my farm today.” he said. So I posted the story on the Country Sports TV facebook group.

Part 2 of my story: Local police support poacher and rural crime.

It turns out that they claim that they had permission to shoot for the tenant farmer. He was not a tenant farmer, he only had a grass keep lease. Therefore he had no legal authority to give the gang permission to shoot. In fact they had not asked him if they could shoot. They just took it for granted.

I posted the story on facebook to high light bad shooting practise and the point out that shooter need to get permission to shoot before shooting on any ground.

I posted this story on Country Sports TV and a BASC facebook group. I did not name the main man but it was clear you could work out who they were.

I had a visited on the next Saturday morning for the local police. A WPC and PC, the WPC did not speak. The PC would not like me speak. “We have had a complaint from XXX XXXXX that you are harassing him”.

“This has the stop NOW! the PC said. And walk out the door.

“I’m a reporter and I only told the story, that was true.” I tried to tell him.

With one foot out of the door he turned to me and said. “They where shooting legally and they had permission to shoot for the tenant”

I do not know if he heard me when I said this was untrue and he had been mislead, the tenant farmer only had a green keep lease not giving him legal authority to give anyone permission to shoot on the ground. I found out later that the farmer that rents to ground had never been asked or given his permission for them to shoot on Simon’s.

So now I can not report or high light rural crime and poaching because the criminals are being protected by the local police.

OR, I will be arrested for harassment.

Can you believe this?

On the money.

I may be wrong - if so - apologies, but I will plait sawdust if this is the full tale. As it stands, I can drive a combined harvester through the holes in it.

We are being asked to believe that Simon wanted you, with a camera to post a video on You Tube and help get rid of them. Are you the first port of call in your area when trouble happens? :hmm: :hmm:

I would have thought his first call should have been to the Police - "armed trespass" springs to mind.
