Head covering & face veil with glasses and ear protection?

What head covering and face veil can you wear with glasses and ear protection?

Face veils are desperate at making your glasses steam up.

Ear protection is a ****** to get on over a hat, and impossible if you wear a camo hood.

I've been thinking of one of these worn like a shemagh....

Any thoughts?

In a hide I wear leccy ear defenders over a baseball cap. I also wear a olive buff round my neck, but sometimes pull it up over my grinner. Works well enough

Nial,

I have used that for a face veil but you would be best to cut it up first. Using it as a shemagh would make you sweat your bits off in the summer.

I cut a piece that fits over my nose and down to just below my chin. The width is from ear to ear. I then had my better half sew a piece of elastic on the back at the top so that it rests over my ears. I used that for years but now have a lighter material but cut exactly the same. Before contacts I wore glasses and they always steamed up and I never did find the answer (no problems with contacts though).

When I wear ear plugs (not as often as I should acording to my doctor on Tuesday) I prefer the squashy yellow buds. I do have about 3 types of military issued plugs but still prefer the squashy ones. If I could afford the fancy electronic ear defenders, I would wear them over a beannie hat.

Thanks for the feedback guys, looks like a camo baseball cap is a better idea than a brimmed hat.

I use Napier Pro 9 or deben electronic defenders and have cutouts in the brim of my hats to get them

on but this isn't great, I suppose this is where moulded in ear protection is probably best.

Aye but for _most_ of the year it might be OK (I can't remember being too warm in a hide, I'm in Edinburgh).

I was out with tignme last week and he gave me a bit cut as you describe. The mesh is pretty loose so it's easy to breathe

through, this is the first material I've found that doesn't make my glasses steam up!

I've got some coming so will experiment and report back.

i have a lightwight face veil/hood which stops glasses steaming up. i also use cens pro moulded ear plugs after getting fed up with ear defenders.

I find the veils that hang in front of the face (from a cap) make it really awkward when trying to shoot and restricts your view of birds any sort of distance away, best avoided in my opinion.

I now use a camo cap with the peak pulled down low and stay still behind the hide, make sure neck area is covered - seems to work for me

the one i use has elastic so sits flush to your face. only problem with caps is that they dont break up your silhouette as well.

Go to that well known on-line auction and search for 'camo face veil and cap'. It should only bring up one option and I've used that successfully with glasses :good: The mesh is a loose fit and fine enough to let your breath through without it fogging up your specs.

For ear protection I use Shooter's Aid (Sonic II) so I don't have to remove my protection everytime I want a conversation.

Cheers

Paul
