Scragrat
My mate called round to see me today in his rally prepared Mk2 Escort. Anyone who has ever followed rallying will recognise the Mk2 as the car to have, before all the four wheel drive Subaru's, Evo's and the like came on the scene. It has taken him 8 years and somewhere between £30k and £40k to complete and has been a bit of a standing joke that it would never be finished The engine is a 250 bhp Honda vtec, which doesn't kick the variable valve timing in till 6000 rev's, driving a 6 speed, quick shift gear box. All driving the rear wheels He took me out for a spin around some of the back lanes today, clean underwear needed on return! Off to a classic Ford Rally in the Lake District in a fortnight so hope things go well
SXPhil
Nice Motor What class is he racing in?
Scragrat
It's not a race as such, lots of classic Fords driving around the Lakes. Give it time and I'm sure he will be into the proper stuff.
AVB
Looks nice. Pity it doesn't have the original engine but few do nowadays. A mate of mine had a mk1. The ones with the very big rounded arches. I think it was an RS1800 engine that put out about 200bhp. So very tail happy. Impossible to keep in a straight line even on tarmac. Scragrat
He was going to build it as an original at first, had a Cosworth engine ready to go in, but descided the Honda engine was more robust. Having said that, he blew a Honda engine on Friday during set up  Luckily he had a spare so a quick engine out and replace on Saturday was needed and back on the road. Imperfection
Real nice car.It captures the spirit of the 70's with its appearance, but has the reliablity and power of today.I like the Escort Cosworth wheels on it and think they suit it better than what they're supposed to be on.Best thing though its rear wheel drive which is where its supposed to be. Always had a soft spot for the mk2 Escort.A friend used to have an original RS2000 as his first car when we were driving rusty Fiestas and spent most of our time going sidewards in it. 39TDS
What are you on about "Mk2 is the one to have"? I can only find this pic of my engine bay, at least I admire his taste in strut braces.

Dunkield
Looks nice. Pity it doesn't have the original engine but few do nowadays. I thought the same but I guess the cost of having a decent Cosworth engine built/rebuilt would be way higher then slipping a Jap motor in there so it makes sense. Great car though
figgy
That takes me back my first car was a mk11 escort, fantastic sound from a big bore exhaust k&n and twin webbers and in the wet only went forward at 45 degrees with no slip diff. Think he should put a cosworth engine in though, fast fords are real collectors cars. He has obviously put a lot into it hope he enjoys this summer. Check out wenny's escort on you tube a mk111 sleeper on granada wheels this lad is a fast ford fanatic, wouldn't be supprised if he dosen't go to the same event with one of his cars.
