southeastpete
Hi, im looking at doing a reasonable amount of ratting for the landowner where i have just got shooting permission. ive just bought a huspower 410, and im wondering if with a really light load, it would be ok for ratting around barns? im thinking damage to structures? does anyone have any ideas? many thanks pete
stubby
have no idea on the loads, but maybe a fourten eley would work, 2 1/2" make sure you only use fibre wads, as plastic can get stuck on the holes drilled in barrel, not good on your 2nd shot
CharlieT
A 410 will cause damage to buildings and structures at the sort of distances it will kill at.
Paladin
Try a box of Eley Fourten 2"
MK38
Try a box of Eley Fourten 2" That would be my choice, but make sure you have a shot clear of the buildings..... Use the smallest shot size you can and don't stand to close to where they are going to be shot. I used to use a 410 for them years ago, it can be great fun shooting them when they bolt.... and i only shot a few holes in the barn ! vampire
Try a box of Eley Fourten 2" Have used these, think they were 9 grams, like party poppers but they do the job
debaser
I use 9 grammes of size 6 for rats and 9 grammes of size 9 for mice. Great fun but as mentioned they will cause damage to buildings. ATB

Cranfield
A 410 will cause damage to buildings and structures at the sort of distances it will kill at. That is also my experience.
Vince Green
Very small shot will reduce the problem. A .410 for rats will be quite an expensive way of killing a few.The cartridges are dearer than 12bore. Have you not got an air rifle?
