abadshot
At the minute I'm using a deben mini tracer mounted on my Sako Quad .22lr, I've only got a Hawke scope on it. I find it o.k when using the white light but not all that great with the red filter, do they take a while to get use to, how does everyone else get on? Should I upgrade the scope or accept the offer from a friend to lend me some NV, either a Gen 1+ or a pulsar digiscope N550? Thanks for your advice
stubby
get a bigger lamp, I used to use a nightsearcher, great looking lamp, excellent build etc, but it just wasent upto the job on the rimmy, bought a u caller lamp with red filter, its the mutts nutts, and I only use a bog standard 3-9 x 40 scope
Frenchieboy
I have a red filter and an amber filter for my Lightforce 140. I use the amber one regularly but have never used the red one - I find the red ones difficult to get used to. I would suspect that your lamp is not quite powerful enough to handle a red filter so you might like to try an amber one, the red does take a lot out of the brightness and power of any lamp! inthedark
I've got a red filter for a 240 blitz, and it's still a pig to shoot over cos target I.D.'s too dodgy, but it doesn't half pick up eyes well. The solution - lamp up with the filter then use a white clulight for the shot. Alternatively, there's a swing off filter available for the clulight so you only need one lamp, but it doesn't do the distance. Amber filters are the way to go. Good luck! steve_b_wales
I used to use red filters on both my Blaserlite and Blitz 240. I never did get on with them. Then I switched to amber filters, and they are excellent. The quarry (mainly foxes) still come into the call, and the 'yellow' light does'nt seem to bother them. The only time I use a red one now, is when I'm ratting with my air rifle.
Dekers
Colour filters are always debatable, some colours appear to work in some areas for some reason! I used to use Red a fair bit on my Tracer Mini but lost it in the field some years ago, never bothered since and the dimmer does as well as anything I find these days. Nevertheless, on the Mini the RED does cut the distance down a lot. I also have the Max, both pro versions so both have the dimmer, also got a red filter for the Max (it came with it), if you want the red filter the Max will be better for sure. Beardo
i never use my red filter on the 170 anymore - just use the dimmer.
garyb
Bunnies or around housing - Red filter Anywhere else - No filter. You simply will not be able to ID a fox at 200 yards under a red filter, hence why I don't use them for foxing.
natcot
Horse for courses and all that! I regularly use a red filter and find it excellent. I does really kill the brightness but the bunnies eyes stand out really well (unless they have their backs to you). I find unfiltered light too bright and I often struggle to find rabbits as the bright white light does not give enough definition to targets. I do also use amber which I find is a good alternative as it's still good for picking up eyes whilst still having a reasonable amount of light. My friend and I both have Sako Finnfire rifles with Bushnell scopes, but I find the light transmission through my Legend makes a huge difference for me compared to his Banner. SPEEDY
I hate red filters, their crapping, buy a hid light instead, I will.never go back to another light now.
pavman
I have a cluson with flip red for lamping up and a 240 blitz with orange for the shot at Fox and a white 170 scope mounted for rabbits and loan foxing. I do however try to have the white light showing above the eye line and not at the fox (if that makes sense)
al4x
a dimmer is essential with a white light for foxing, rabbiting is where you need a red filter
Salop Matt
For rabbits a red filter and dimmer are for me what I feel to be essential ! Am hoping culson will be at the MGF or the CLA this year so that I can get a lamp and filter deal from them !

I suspect that was a problem site with rabbits to sort out, next time it will be a lot less, and so on, and so on, either that it was a neglected site (which I doubt for Stubby). Shoots like that don't happen if you keep control!
