pavman
Watching a prog last night on sky about constricting snakes and how folk kept them as pets then let them go when they get to big and now they are a problem in some American rural areas eating pet dogs etc........ One case they acted out a couple had a big Python which they kept in the bedroom of their 2 year old baby (i kid you not) they forget to secure the tank and guess what Python eats baby they find it on the bed in the morning baby size bulge in belly. The narrator says this was a tragedy…… yep a tragedy such folk are allowed to breed! Case two, some dim wit at a zoo decides to go into a Python display area to change a light bulb. He is on his own “and did not follow normal procedures which nearly cost him his life” you don’t say Case 3 some people are “playing with their pet Python” and suddenly it turns on one of them and loops its coils around him almost suffocating him had it not been for the quick actions of his friends
Frenchieboy
Am I right in thinking that it is the program that is on weekly called something like "Snake Hunters" which is filmed in the Everglades? I watch it regularly but as interesting as it is I just could not do a job like that as I am terrified of snakes! This is something similar to "The Dog Whisperer" where the other week Cesar was dealing purely with Wolf and Wolf Crosses - When will they learn that an animal such as a wolf is a WILD PREDATOR and these "Wolf Dogs" will grow from "cuddly puppies" into a liability and they will always have their predatory instincts? rimfire4969
These big snakes are causing a hell of a lot of problems in Florida ideal conditions and no natural predators.
bvemanta
I hate to say it but there are equally stupid people here who leave breeds of dogs that have been bred to fight with children. An all too regular feature in the news. You just cant legislate for common sense.

There are well over 4 times the amount of "Bull Terriers" in comparison to all other breeds and mongrels put together! This must tell us something! I assume that you can also buy children that have been bred to fight with dogs ? Sounds far more fun than badger baiting ! An all too regular feature in the news. You just cant legislate for common sense. You shouldn't leave any dog with children. I think you read the papers too much. People get bitten more by Labs and collies but you don't see that in the press because they have an agenda. If you believed the papers you would only think pretty young girls get murdered in this country, truth is double the amount of men get murder to women, thing is a death of a bloke doesn't sell papers. Vince Green
The big trouble with 'common sense' is it isn't! The big problem with many dogs is the way they are bred. These council estate bred so called weapon dogs (and I see many in the course of my work) are inbred and no thought given to the consequences. Its just another form of income to these people. Some of the better kennel club breeders of supposedly pedigree dogs are no better

I agree you shouldnt leave any dog with young children but a lab or a collie is more likely to have one bite and go away.Might leave a scar but unlikely life threatening other breeds can be hard to stop once they start. Some breeds are just more savage than others its a fact. We rely on our labs and collies etc to work and be trainable to do that work. Generations of breeding have brought out that instinct in the breeds. Some breeds have been bred for fighting and killing in the past and this instinct is closer to the forefront of these dogs nature. It takes very little to coax the retrieve nature out of a Labrador not so easy with other breeds.Likewise it takes very little to coax the fight out of some dogs.I agree any breed that has been badly treated can be vicious but some breeds are more likely to be dangerous than others. aj85
i have kept and bred all of the largest snake species over the years and yes they can be dangerous and yes they are capable of killing adult humans, but if precautions are taken, such as locked enclosures, a back up handler just in case and a bit of common sense and they are no more dangerous than any other pet. we all use firearms, keep them secure under lock and key and use them responsibly. so its the same with anything, ill bet the guy who left the python unsecured in the vacinity of a baby also has a 9mm under his pillow. Well put and I couldn't agree more. How many times have I heard "Oh, he's great around the kids but not good with dogs" from a Staffie owner...what they actually mean is that it's an aggressive sod around dogs but it hasn't felt threatened by the kids yet...just a matter of time too often for my liking. Gordon R
Can we stop this degenerating into another thread where various breeds of dogs get a panning, whilst posters swear that whatever breed they own, wouldn't harm a fly? Nothing ever gets settled and people get upset.

Even a white tail will kill you. Let them have those pets. It cleans up our gene pool I will say that a law should be enacted to protect the children. The parents can be as stupid as they wish but the wee babes just dont have a clue..
