harrycatcat1
My daughter has a Hotpoint Ultima super silent wash 1600 spin and it has started not washing the clothes clean. It has been a good washing machine but something has gone slightly amiss. It goes through all the motions but does not wash clean. I tried to clean the filter but cant find it, would this be anything to do with it and if so where is it. Any ideas anyone?

harrycatcat1
Is she putting detergent in? Or dicky batch of detergent? I think she has tried a few brands and has added vanish I am reliably advised by my OH. I will put it to her again though.

timps
I tried to clean the filter but cant find it, would this be anything to do with it and if so where is it. Any ideas anyone? The only Hotpoint I ever had, the filter was at the back underneath the drum housing, you had to remove the metal back plate of the washer to get at it. In the end I left the back plate off as it had an appetite for my sons socks.
TaxiDriver
Is it heating up ? Is it coldfill only and not heating up ? Or as suggested is the water outlet clogged/dirty and backing up?

In the end I left the back plate off as it had an appetite for my sons socks. Same as mine, my mum put a throw into mine whilst visiting which wasn't supposed to be machine washed. After flooding the kitchen it didn't wash anything and I couldn't find the filter and ended up calling Hotpoint out who removed the rear cover and removed the rubber trap, cleared it out and it's worked fine since. What a stupid bloody place to put it :( Jon.
harrycatcat1
Is it heating up ? Is it coldfill only and not heating up ? Or as suggested is the water outlet clogged/dirty and backing up? It is cold fill and it is warming up but not washing clean. Some others have said the filter could be at the back of the machine (quoting Jon "what a bloody stupid place to put it") so I will have to drag it out and check the filter at the back no wonder I could not flippin find it Thanks to Jon and timps for pointing me in the filter direction Its a starter anyway. I knew I could rely on good old Pigeon Watch members.
Vermincinerator
They dont make em like they used to,on the reccomendation of my best man who was a domestic appliance engineer, we bought a Phillips/Whirlpool when we got married in 1991. It finally give up the ghost in 2004, the only reason we got rid of it because the framework had corroded so much. It never let us down and with 4 children it was running every day. Since then we have had 3 which have either completely packed up or have been to expensive to repair, these include 2 Bosch's and an AEG. Ian. Kes
I have had hotpoints and its always a thin womans sock which gets stuck - Bought a braun last time as the filter is accessible and cleanable from the front. Theres no doubt its a problem with the pump out from the washer, so all the dirty water is retained and not flushed by the rinses. Worth checking back from the outflow for blockages. The pump will be close to the drum. Useful to take off the pipes by compressing the clips and just checking they are clear. Cheers Edited July 22, 2011 by Kes
harrycatcat1
I have just come back from my daughters. I pulled the washing machine out and took off a white plastic cover about 16 inch x 6 inch at the bottom at the back of the machine. When off I could see the motor below the drum with the belt on and a concertina black rubber pipe coming from the drum area to what I assume is the pump and then the grey outlet pipe coming from the pump, but no filter. I would have thought that it would have been in that line if anywhere surely. I put the outlet pipe into the sink and got my wife to set the washing machine to fill and then empty and it pumped out great. The only thing that I can think that might have been wrong was that when I pulled the machine out the outlet pipe was wafting about and not in the clip at the back of the washing machine and may have got trapped the last time it was pushed back in. Or as it has been mentioned before poor washing powder :o We will have to see if it works when she uses it after she comes back of her hols. Bloody kids, they were less hassle when they were at school. Thanks for every ones advice anyway.
JonD
Another one to try is to pour a bottle of white vinegar into the drum and then run the longest hottest was it does to get rid of all the accumalated ****. Then another hot wash without the vinegar. Mine is now 8 years old and going strong, it only gets used 3-4 times a month @ 40 degrees but the above cleans it out big time. Tip was from How Clean is Your House i think Jon.

Bluebarrels
We had a problem with our Hotpoint wm,over a period of time a build up of sludge (this is due to us using liquid detergent) :o we phoned them up and they reccommend you run your machine/dishwasher through once a month with a industrial strength cleaner which of course you buy from them a two year supply for the wm/dishwasher cost me £30 and it sorts the problem big time :good: BB
harrycatcat1
I have to admit she has used that liquid detergent and the out pipe did have some gunge in it. A gallon of white vinegar then
bruno22rf
Run the machine at 90 degree,s with a biological powder at least once a month and avoid liquid detergents-if all else fails then try the vinegar tip or soda crystals. There is a brilliant website all about washing machines that is well worth a visit-washerhelp. harrycatcat1
Try putting a brick in it on spin...... That does not seem such a bad idea in the circumstances as she has now told me that it is not warming the water up so there is no flippin wonder the washing is not coming clean. Women It sounds as though the thermostat has gone or something beyond my capabilities.
DSPUK
Do the brick then claim it on insurance - kids will be kids and I never saw him put it in Dave Edited July 25, 2011 by DSPUK
