Mainly rape and barley but some wheat aswell . Will be on some rape stubble tomorrow saw a good few hundred dropping in behind the combine while i was shooting a few bunnies Anyone else out on stubbles tomorrow ? UKPoacher
I'm still gagging waiting on the combines. They've harvested all around us and this morning around 5am I was on barley stubble waiting for recovery of a stolen bit of plant that thieves had left behind and the pigeons were dropping in in their hundreds. Quite frustrating especially as I've just started my four days off.

Mightymariner
Combining stopped at moment because it's so wet. Went out on Weds on some rape stubble but the birds were incredibly flighty, couldn't get in a spot where they would commit - they were a bit like winter flocks. Haven't seen many on barley stubbles, mainly swathed rape which I guess will be lifted in the next few days so things may improve. Went out today on a field I shot 25 in four hours on Monday, hardly any around.
proTOM1
Well just got back from watching the combine on the rape i plan to shoot tomorrow and plenty dropping in on the 2 fields but they have been on the fields for a week or so just dropping in on the spray lines . Another good thing is there the only 2 rape fields in the area to be cut with no one else going till monday . Had about 15 fields cut today on my farms with more be cut tomorrow Good luck to all heading out tomorrow Edited July 22, 2011 by proTOM1

jason kaye
Been to see my farmers today, but it seems I'll not be on the rape stubbles untill next weekend :( ,but I had a nice phonecall from the gamekeeper of my pheasant shoot,he said he'd been past a field of barley that had been cut today and he had seen at least 500 pigeons on the stubble ,so if "I fancy a crack at them it's all yours" so I'm going down first thing in the morning ,so it's barley stubble in the morning then rape stubble next weekend. Jase.

Heilan Coo
Combine out of the shed getting a dust down and farm manager was out checking moisture content of barley this morning, so hopefully starting this week. :good:
proTOM1
tom i,m very suprised your not getting into them on the rape stubble and swath because i know your neck of the woods is brilliant for the woodies is it because there are a lot of fields cut in the area at the same time, we did well on the rape stubble because its the only one cut for a few miles We have a few fields cut now so the birds are spread out some what ,alot of rape in my area this year which is making it hard i think as even the uncut fields have birds dropping in ,but some of the farmers will soon plough theres in which will help . Its always the same round me they need to build over a few days where as others go out the next day and bag up . Maybe today or tomorrow with a bit of luck
