How many cartridges do you take?

When I go shooting I always take 200. I do 100 to try every stand and know what’s on that particular day, have a bite to eat then save 50 for stands I like then lastly 50 for the ones I found harder to always keep improving and ensure that I kill every hard clay before I leave.

My question to you is - how many cartridges do you bring and how do you break them down on the clays course?

I take 200 with me and generally just bang away on each stand.

I won't leave a stand until I have at least broken the clays a few times. That can be a looooong time...

I then return to a stand I enjoyed that day and finish when I have got to a point where I break them consistantly. I never leave the last stand on a miss. :good:

Do you own your own ground?

5 - 10 on Tuesday night plus the box I get at the event.

60-75 for the 50 bird shoot on a sunday just in case the setter-up-erer decides we'll have a flush.

125 for any practise that I do at Fennes. I aim to use 100.

Eh??????

Why would that be?

If the place is empty then you can take as much time as you want. :good:

I suppose you must go to mid week shoots, you can`t often do what you describe in quite the same way at a regular Sunday shoot that`s all. For instance you can`t just ask for another one just because you missed the last bird.

You are correct, I am not at a standard where I go to 50 or 100 bird shoots regularly.

I tend to turn up mid week and practice when the place is quiet. I should have mentioned that.... :good:

I always take plenty! Kelbrook have counters and I have got through the best part of 200 in a session before. Usually take 200 as that's what my cartridge carrying box will hold. In a pub league that shoots 30 birds and I take 2 boxes plus the miscellaneous in my pockets. Get a few no birds and they repeat the pair, you feel a real wally having only taken 30 cartridges (happens every week to someone!).

I normally shoot 50 bird on a Sunday but occassionally whilst we're there we'll decide to do 100 and then of course allowences for no birds, missfires(rarely), accidental discarges(JOKE GUYS :o ) . So I usually take 5 boxes(125) and it usually works out fine :good: .

I second that, I go Thursday or Friday as I work the weekend and Monday to Wednesday. Defiantly better that way. I take as long as I need per stand. When I go I may only see 2 or 3 people but always stop and have a good chat with them. If I ever rock up on a weekend obviously it’s completely different.

I think he means do you use the Red ones in the top barrel where they should go and the blue ones in the bottom barrel :good:

Improves your score a serious amount I gather he has been doing it for years

sorry alex but your wrong, its the other way round, or i suppose just flick your barrell selector assuming you shoot bottom barrell first
