HERTFORDSHIRE CRIMESTOPPERS OFFER REWARD FOLLOWING GUN SHOP BURGLARY

POLICE are renewing their appeal for witnesses following a series of events which led to a ram raid in St Albans on Thursday March 23.

On Sunday 19 March at around 10pm, a silver BMW M3 was stolen from Newberries Avenue, Radlett. In the course of the robbery, the male householder was hit over the head with a house brick, causing injuries to his head and back. Two males, possibly Eastern European, made off with the vehicle.

At approximately 10.30pm on the same night, the stolen BMW was seen in Eastcote in Middlesex. The offenders were throwing property belonging to the victim out the car window as the car was driven along.

On Monday March 20 at around 7pm, number plates were stolen from a second BMW in St Margarets Road, Ruislip.

On Sunday March 21 at around 6.50am, number plates were stolen from a third BMW in Court Road, Ickenham, Middlesex.

On Thursday March 23 between 8pm and 9pm, a Ford Fiesta was stolen from Frobisher Crescent in Stanwell, Middlesex.

At 9.12pm on Thursday March 23, the stolen Ford Fiesta was used as the ramming vehicle at the front of Park Street Gun Shop, in Park Street, St Albans. The front of the shop collapsed and the two male offenders entered the shop and made off with four shotguns before making off in the stolen silver BMW, which bore licence plate LM54 TMZ.

On Wednesday March 29 at around 5.32pm, the silver BMW was found abandoned near some warehouses in Pease Pottage, Sussex. The vehicle then bore the stolen number plates of the third BMW. Within the vehicle were further stolen plates from the second BMW.

PC Evie Moont, investigating the incident, said: “Four vehicles were stolen in the days leading up to the gun shop burglary and we are appealing for the public’s help in locating the offenders. We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any of the vehicles, or anything suspicious around any of the addresses.

“Hertfordshire Crimestoppers are offering a reward of up to £750 for any information leading to the arrest and charge of offenders in relation to these incidents. If you have any information, please call the Central Area Crime Desk on 01707 638 102, quoting reference F3/06/677 or telephone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

What's the betting they were convicted foreign criminals let out by our dear Home Secretary, anxious to re-arm themselves for another crime spree..??

I'll bet they thought that Christmas had come early when Charles Clark gave them their freedom back..!!

Shake your head all you like there pelt man - but for every outstanding copper there's also a bad un. And "ok" ones in between. If you beleive ALL coppers are public little helpers you must live in a different world to some of us.

And I'm sorry if any of the good un's are offended by this.

I'm a private hire taxi driver who works the all night shift. About a week or two before xmas 4 years ago I was driving in a lawfull manner along a city road when a police car pulled sharply out of a side street in front of me causing me to brake a little. No problem - I initially thought he's on a call maybe.

He then poodled along at about 10 mph for the 200 or so yards to the T junction at the end of the road.

and waited - and waited - and waited... for maybe a minute, no traffic mind you, just sat there :P

Getting annoyed by now - because there was no traffic to wait for, It was actually an open Y shaped juction with no buildings to obstruct the view, and give way markings that reflect the easy view, so I could see there was nothing coming even though I was behind him. I'd even noticed him briefly look in his mirror at me. I papped!

The young fellow flew out of the car, his seat belt buckle hitting the outside of his off-side rear window with such a crack that should have smashed it but did'nt, almost dropping his cap as he fumbled in haste to put it on, stropped back to my car and demanded to know why I had sounded my horn after 10PM. (Irrelevantly it was before 10 and I said so) I pointed out that since there had been no passing traffic, he appeared to have no reason to block the highway and I needed to get through, did he need help? was he ok?

When he replied that he was watching the xmas lights in a distant window - I said words to the effect of "your gazing at fairy lights but I have a pick up over there", pointing to a house in the street I had waited to enter, "any other person would have put his hands up and said sorry mate - din't see you there or similar.

But it now looks like you've deliberatly been goading me, just finishing off your shift are you?

"Why haven't you got your seat belt on?" he snaps?

I should point out that in fairness I wasnt wearing it, but we're excempt from wearing them when we have passengers in, so don't automatically clunk click every time before we set off on every journey like we would if there was no excemption.

I was going to see if you were ok say's I, (lying) and if thats the only way you can bluster out of this then your not serving the public interest very well are you? I blurted out, foolishly displaying my dissaproval of the 20 year something young ****.

Right pull over there he instructs me. Ok I had maybe been a bit harsh - but he was taking the proverbial - just because he was able to play silly games with the public who usually just tolerate it as there is little else we can do, right? Well I knew everything on my car was in order, as were my documents.

He proceeded to check my details, was it a manual? "yep" I replied, watched him tick the box - I think... he goes and checks. Erm you forgot to check the tyres - which he subsequently did. Was the tax is disc still in the window?... At about the time he was finished taking my details I suggested that many of the immigrant cab drivers in Leicester had their brothers uncles mates driving their cars, how could he be sure I was who I said I was? :P

Out comes the "private" comms phone to PNC (which he thinks I cant hear, I was 50 but had good hearing)

And as the distinguishing features came in I displayed them, openly mocking him by now - and him knowing he'd bit off a chunk more than he wanted as he kept looking at his watch.

The bottom line was that he "would'nt report me for sounding the horn (which is why he stamped out of his car remember) but he would report me for not wearing a seat belt" This was about the time that I pointed out that I was wearing a uniform before his daddy made him and that he was a total disgrace to his, and thet the public deserved better. He even looked down knowing by this time that I was in the right - but it was in his power to give me a fixed penalty, which he did.

Counter this with a six foot six beat bobby, who knows that cabbies are reasonably decent types - having been vetted and subjected to advance disclosure's etc, and regularly checked by the local council. A truly lovely bloke. Realistic, he overlooks our parking on double yellows after the rush hour etc. Pops in frequently for a coffee, grumbles that people dont talk to him much these days, due mainly to being disenchanted by safety camera money grabbing. The same apparantly goes for CID - they dont get much help now either - largely due to distrust of the police and their concealed camera's. These are the words of a bobby.

The FEO that came for my fist FAC visit... Absolute gem of a bloke I'd be proud to spend some time with

Sorry - only a fool would think the general public respect's the uniform in the way they did before speed camera's started raising money for their own forces.

Sorry Dave G

The head shake was because i thought that you wanted to get me going on the Speed Camara issue again, which i said that i would not be posting in again.

But now that have said your bit, remember that we get ***** like this copper in all trates. With some of your fellow drivers being the worst. If your one of the good-un's sorry no offence.

In the road i live in there is someone who uses a Private Hire Taxi Service, during the Morning & return in the Late Afternoon. On a good few times now i have left my house to go out when one of these drivers are making the pick up. The people who live opposite the peson who use the Taxi service have to park there Car in the Cerb, as they don't have a Driveway. Now the Drvers from the Taxi Co pull up outside the house to make the pick up blocking the road & for some reason a couple of the drivers refuse to move to let Me pass untill the Passenger leaves the house & gets in the Cab. We have the same problem with a couple of the drivers in the Afternoon, stopping outside the house & blocking the road & don't move untill payment has been made passenger has got out & the Driver has counted the Money in his Wallet, put a new CD in the Player & got his next job of the CB. :P

"WHAT GOES AROUND".

I was stopped by a Copper end of last Summer I got out & He told Me that My nearside back tyre was down to the Steel on the inside edge, which it was. I was Suited & Booted on my way to a Wedding which i told him, his reply was "Very sorry to hold you up i'll just right out a Ticket which will give you two weeks to get the tyre fixed. Bring the stamped Ticket down to the station & that will be the end of it."

So as you say there are GOOD-UN'S & BAD-UN'S. SOMETIMES the way you react will affect the way they are.(not in your case) that copper wanted to be at home in bed with his Wife & kick the Milkman out.

I fully understand what you are saying peltman, but.....

Joe public usually respects the law until they are disillusioned. I don't blame the local plods for the money grabbing tactics of their superiors in nicking joe driving public for any minor offence that swells their coffers.

I do blame their superiors for this.

But, once they become disillusioned - even by a newbie plod (and we have all got to learn), then the cooperation that the police expect can become strained.

Last year I was driving home with the wife, when I notices a panda car following very close.

He follows me for over a mile and a half, during which time I kept strictly to the limit, and drove as though my life was dependant on me breaking no rules.

Blue light flashes, and a I got pulled over.

Young bright eyed plod with shaven head (no disrespects to hirsuite deprived out there) and flack jacket asks me out of the car. He is 'supervised' I think by older plod.

"Excuse me sir, but you were driving erratically (blatant lie). Would you mind blowing into this little 'ere thingy to check if you have not imbibed too much?".

Needless to say, no reading whatsoever, and I was allowed to procede.

Now, the point that I am trying to make is that the above episode was rather intimidating and worrying. I do drive 50,000 miles a year, and my last ticket was 700,000 miles ago.

Wife was furious (always a bad sign) at the way that I appeared to have been intimidated, and threatened to report said incident to Chief Plod. No ways I says, I do not want my name in a little black book. Yes, I am sure that they do exist, being cynical about most things.

I am sure that a smug superior plod would say that I should not have been worried. No guilt, then no worry.

Cobblers I am afraid. The courts are full of people it seems that are only too anxious to sue for wrongful arrest. Would you be worried if you were in court wrongly arrested - too bloody right you would. I sees that only last week our dear Home Secretary was greatly restricting the amount of compensation to people held wrongly in jail for decades.

I am not knocking the 95% of decent coppers out there, but pushing people around in the way that things are going will only have one result.

Sorry to woffle on

Qoute: Sorry Dave G

The head shake was because i thought that you wanted to get me going on the Speed Camara issue again, which i said that i would not be posting in again.

Sorry for the missunderstanding mate :drinks:

Yep there's defo some cruds drive cabs too - There was a hackney carriage blocking a narrow side street this morning, 10 feet from a layby. as I went over a kerb ramp to squeeeze by him the immigrant aked me if I was in a hurry?

Well not really pal - but there's a place over there you could have used instead of blocking the traffic sez I, as his passengers dissembarked.

But I'm a taxi driver so I can - you should learn the law mate he said before driving off :yahoo:

I was speechless - as was my passenger.

Anyway comparing/discussing coppers... A few weeks ago, about 1 am I took a naughty cut through a 50 yard one way street the wrong way to save half a mile circuit. It again an offerred unobstucted view of the road ahead of this unused road (at 1 am - industrial estate), when around the corner 200 yards away comes a patol car. The driver pulls me up with a "what the eck are you doing?"

Aw - I was pulling a cheeky one and you got me bang to rights mate grins I...

"Well turn around and go the right away" he replied as he pulled off - without waiting to check if I complied or not - which I did.

Now there was a good un. A deserted industrial estate, I broke the rules but there was no risk at that time and he knew it - so he left it, It wasnt really in the public interest to proceed with it. Had it been daytime working hours it would have been different - but I would'nt have done it then.

Incidently that above was probably the longest post I have or ever will make - I dont know what came over me

Oops I seem to have hijacked this thread a bit - sorry.

You can't knock the 95% of decent coppers because there isn't that many, I recented attaended a charity quiz night at our local police station. There was a sargeant who was retiring and he got up to make a speech. Cracking jokes about how "prisoners" had accidently tripped over a door cill and smashed their face on the table, and nearly every copper in that room started chuckling.

I watched the program on channel 4 last night and although I was disgusted by it, I wasn't a bit suprised, A very good friend of mine used top be a copper and she left the force because of what went on and that was several years ago.

The vast majority of them are on the fiddle somehow, it is either getting a cheap chinese takeaway or free drinks at their local in return for a bit of "protection".

The only reason there is so many speed cameras about is because it is easy. The police don't need to do anything to raise their figures.

Rant over
