12borejimbo
I am after a half decent pair of binos, not Swarovski, Zeiss ect, as I couldnt afford that right now, so what would you reccomend that is half decent, mostly for spotting foxes whilst waiting out, for serveying the landscape ect. Budget maybe a few hundred max, and would consider something if your thinking of selling..... Thank you!!

Catamong
These are good, not expensive either: http://www.strathspey.co.uk/ Go for the 8 x 32 Compact Waterproof. I know he's out of stock at the moment, 'cos I've got a pair on order, I was so impressed after using garyb's pair.. Cat.

Why go for the compact model instead of the 8 or 10x42s?

Always buy the exact pair you looked through not one off the shelf if going new route. Don't look at things you can see without them look for things you cant see, midges under woodland cover at distance are a great test of binos, enlaging sheep that you can easy see at 1/2 mile with the naked eye are not

Gimlet
They look and sound pretty decent those! Why go for the compact model instead of the 8 or 10x42s? I've got a pair of 8x42 Strathspey bins. Can't see them being beaten for the money. Maker claims they are the equal of makes costing 2 or 3 times the price, and I wouldn't argue with that. They're not £1700 Swaros, but if you're saving up for a top end brand you might be better off buying a pair of these rather than spending £200 more to no advantage and putting the money saved towards your Swaros. He'll let you have a pair on 7 days sale or return to see how you like them. Very helpful chap. I'd go for the 42s rather than the compacts. They're not bulky. I wear mine on a bino caddy and hardly know they're there. Edited September 11, 2011 by Gimlet
wymberley
Read all the reports on the following, all favourable plus I got my step son to go in and buy them for me if he saw fit. His job involves the use of quality optics so I figured his opinion may just be valid. Would recommend checking these out. Bushnell HD UWB ED Glass 8 by 42 Legend Ultra black. There's also 8 by 36 camo'ed if you want to lose them in the grass! RRP £407. Microglobe, 3, Galen Place, London, WC1A 2JR £259. Just Google Microglobe. the enigma
The binos from Strathspey are definitely worth a look.I recently bought a pair of 10x42s after they got a few recommendations on here, and I'm very happy with them. They give a nice crisp image and are pretty rugged compared to some other brands in this price range and higher. They'll easily fit into the pocket of a combat jacket.
