BiG_Al
May have just got myself some permision and was wondering what do you need to start decoying pigeons Is there like a bare minimum of kit or can you build it up as you go? BTW as I'm quite new to shooting I've already had to shell out quite a bit this year so don't want to upset the missus too much so bargin basement stuff is gonna be right up my street and being good at fettling stuff if I can DIY stuff that would be good too

Redditch
Either a camo suit or a hide (Preferably the hide, with some poles), ghost stealth nets are good, and about 12 shell decoys should get you going.
semiautolee
you need to do your reccy before you start knocking those birds down also movement is what woodys look out for so keep still!! chris t
or a pack of 6 fuds £25 ish Quite like those for the money. As said by others Hide is a must, hide plus camo clothes even better. Redditch:- nice gun... fancy one of those in AP camo when they finally come out. I think the 3.5" version is already out, I´ll probably get another 3" one if they come out in camo. It´s about the best auto shotgun I´ve ever had in my mitts, and over the years I´ve been through a lot of them
Cosd
Bare minimum: Dozen shell decoys Net 4 poles (anything from home made to some excellent lightweight bought ones) something to sit on Next step up to add some movement: Bouncer (or two) and/or Magnet and/or Flapper and/or Dennys Dippas Clothing: Army surplus is excellent value Markets/car boot sales also have some deals My personal tip, keep as much of your kit as light as possible, because the weight soon adds up and carrying a whole load of weight in heavy mud is no fun. Since starting out, I've changed pretty much everything I've bought mainly to cut down on size and weight; A few ounces here and there soon adds up. Keep an eye in the sale section on here, there are always bits to be had. Best of luck!!

labstaff
As a cheap hide pole, wilkos do twist lock washing line poles, there green and £3 each! Don't get me wrong theres no spike on the bottom but sure you could fasion something and there thinner than a quality hide pole.......but its a start (and the missus could use them on her washing line!) TJ91
Gun, cartridges and camo clothing Spend plenty of time watching the birds and you can get good bags without any 'gear' Most important thing is to be in the right place... No matter what gear you have if you are in the wrong place you won't get any decent bags Recon......recon......recon.....! BenBhoy
deffo keep an eye on the weight. i've only been into it couple of years now, but already starting to change bits, the amount of kit you carry get so heavy, no fun especially if you have to park and walk to the field. Ben, you're doing it all wrong, you need a 'donkey man' like me, I just strut off ahead in my tweed, shouting at the cretin behind me to stop wheezing. All good advice, don't forget a big bag too, to fit all your kit in, I find it a lot easier to watch my donkey carry one big bag rather than being laden with lots of smaller ones. And as said before, you need pigeons, recce like you've never recce'd before! Good luck

motty
There are many things that a pigeon shooter 'could' buy. As to what a pigeon shooter 'needs' is quite simple - a gun and cartridges. Big bags can be had starting a day with just those items. A hide can often be built from branches etc 'on site'. Pigeons can be shot on a flightline the day before or on the field you have chosen, to use for decoys.A friend of mine NEVER takes a hide OR decoys when he goes shooting and shoots more 100+ bags than most. All that said, it would be sensible to buy some cheap decoys to start with and perhaps an old net of some description.
Davyo
You will need also a big wallet mate, because once your hooked it never ends.
