Was looking at some online video clips and one happened to be of bear hunting. After watching it I came to the conclusion that I would not shoot a bear and it was wrong. But I dont know why because shooting a bear can be justified:

A- You can eat it.

B- Its not an endangered animal.

This was the video: http://www.huntingfootage.com/data/511/196..._Bear_Hunt2.mpg

I am not saying that I dont want anyone to shoot a bear, I dont care; I just wouldnt shoot one myself but I havent had the opportunity but hypothetically speaking I wouldnt.

Would you?

Is there anything you wont shoot that your allowed to (because its classed as vermin or game)?

Nope. Not unless it was to protect me or somone in my family about ot be atacked by one!

To be honest, I dont shoot anything unless it has been causing problems, or im hungery. Usually for the second part though, as almost all my rabbit has been eaten by my family, or given to close friends who always apreciate it a lot

I dont mind if others do it, as long as they do it properly with clean kills etc..

But I really hate the chaps (mainly in USA) who run around in the woods with their bright red caps shooting bears with semi automatic rifles using a lot more then one shot. Or the die hard pistol hunters using .44 magnum to bring them down. Then show their mates the photos, videos and trophys. Makes me sick that such an amazing beast has to die for such a stupid reason.

What a bogus question.

Would you shoot a bear? Hell, I would shoot anything / anyone if I or my family were in danger. The responses apparently say likewise, and so the answer to the exact question posed is actually "yes".

When anyone says bear I now think of this

And no old Pooh bear.

Did you just change the question and add "for sport"?

I am going to start a poll : "should il cacciatore be kept away from the "start new Poll button" cos he can't be trusted not to bish it up?"

Answer:

Yes [ ]

Ermm. I have a much better Poll question - "Would you shoot a wasps' nest at a safe distance with a 12g?"

I would love to. In fact I would pay good money to.

I have never squashed a bee in my life and I let spiders out, but wasps I hate. I hate em.

Absolutly no , now if your worried about being mauled by a bear DONT GO DOWN TO THE WOODS TODAY, OR ANY OTHER DAY therefore you aint in any danger , and more to the point nor are the bears.

What about if a particularly angry bear escapes from a zoo and runs into a local primary school for disadvantaged orphans. What then Mr. I ain't gonna shoot a bear?

I've been on a bear hunt, little old me all alone in a wood waiting in ambush over a pile of rotten fish with only a .50 muzzle loader for company. Don't reckon there was a bear for miles but I spooked something while walking out, probably a white tail, gave me a big adrenaline rush and I surely wasn't going down without a fight

It was soooooo exciting, you have to give it a go if you get the chance :)

Having looked at a lot of yank sites its a question I've thought about quite a bit. In areas they are a pest, the meat in theory is edible and they do make good rugs. Guess its something we don't understand in this country but I'd say I would for the sport and the rug but it would have to be with a large caliber rifle, no handguns and definitely not with a bow and arrow as they tend to do

It is a little ambigous this question!

If someone said "would you shoot a rabbit?" and I replied "yes" I hope they are not going to turn around and say "Well come on over now and finish off thumper, the daughters lost intrest in it and I want the space where the cage is"

It all depends on the situation.

I dont shoot anything purely for the sport.

Surely shooting for sport and using the quarry for meat etc is better than shooting it and tossing the carcass?

(rats and foxes excluded  )

Yes ;) But then if your using the meat your not shooting purely for the sport, are you.

YOu would have to make it a good shot with a muzzle loader cause big ol' grizzly ain't gonna wait for you to reload

Strangely enough that thought did occour to me, but it was muzzle loader season which just added to the fun. My hunting buddy had a pistol as back up, but he was about half a mile away

We were hunting black bear in Arkansas, a shy animal that will only eat you if it reckons it can get away with it. There was a limit, you had to 'phone in before you went out and see if the quota had been filled, 'phone in if you got one. Cost me $225 for the licence, being from out of state.
