rangey
does anyone out there know of a good product that will remove the caked on carbon on the magazine tube of a semi auto shotgun.most of the muck comes of with a good wipe but theres always a ring of stubborn stuff that i can only remove with wirewool.even after after only a few dozen shells

aister
i give it a spray with gun oil as soon as i strip the gun and clean that bit last with wire wool, leaving it seems to soften it up a bit.

Cranfield
A fine wire wool to clean it off, and then lubricate it with car engine oil, IMO this withstands heat much better than gun oil and you don't get so much carbon build up. kent
A std synthetic green sponge like you use for dishes will get it off just as good with no Iron deposits

gemini52
You should never use wire wool on your semi, a brass brush is a much better idea it does a good job of removing carbon combined with some oil.
P~MX
All I've ever used on cleaning my semi's is a can of spray break cleaner - it's loosen and clean off any amount of carbon and if it's really tough and difficult to get off use a red fibre Scotch pad like those use to pre clean before you paint, just flush until it runs clean and then in 2/3 mins it'll evaporate dry ready for oilin Edited October 23, 2011 by P~MX
BlaserF3
I have never lubricated the magazine tube of any semi auto, everything from forwards of the receiver is dry on my 391 and I do not get any carbon build up at all
Alanl50
You dont have to use any a wire wool and abrasives just spit on a ordinary match and rub it on the carbon ring and it will just dissolve, you might use 2-3 matches then just wipe off and oil as normal, standard army cleaning method for the gas plug on a L1A1 SLR.
