HARRIS
Been given a couple by a freind who homeloaded them but i dont really know what to use them for? And it made me curious as you see them on sale but i have never heard of them being used. Obviously the steel no3's are used for wildfowling just not ever heard about lead no3's being used

HARRIS
Rh barrel = No 3 = fox Lh barrel = BB = fox How do you get on with 3's for fox out of interest? I have only personally ever used 1's and BB's
fortune
Ive used 3s for a long time now because when you stand forward most shoots are less than thirty yards in woodland. BB's were always the shot size of choice for most of the people that stood but 3s have an awful lot more pellets and give a better pattern. Just depends on where youre standing and how you take them. 3s chop them down well but I usually have a bb in LH barrel in case charley comes out a bit further away or the next gun misses and you get one come past at a high rate of knots. PS to OP 3's used to be used for wildfowling before non tox Edited November 14, 2011 by fortune

anser2
In the old lead days they were a good goose shot size for decoying.
vulpicide
For bolting foxes with terriers I use a 3 and two bb's for bushing or with hounds 2 bb's and a AAA.
bobt
I use 3 in lead for geese, but in scotland, for fox I prefer homeload AAA

HARRIS
Cheers guys, might give them a try on the charlies then as I take alot within 30 Yards with the 1's so will be interesting to see
fortune
Nothing wrong with homeloads but the only thing to concern your self about is the makeup of these cartridges! If you know this person that made them and you are satisfied that they have been made to a good standard with the correct components. Donated reloads are a bit like donated underwear. You don’t know the history!!

Simon123
Charlies mate, although personally i like to use BB's and dont like using anything under no.2's, but everyone and their own preference, as a mate of mine only uses no.4's with good results :good:

fenman99
I've got loads of 3 shot left over from the old fowling days, now used with good success on hare drives fenman99
MartB
I bought a bargain load of number 3 a while ago and have enough for the next 20 years now. Excellent pattern from my 9 bore muzzle loader. Takes care of most things and easy to pick out of the dinner!
