timps
My grandad and dad were both big into shooting comps but I never really got into it, I had a shotgun licence for years (brought up on a farm) but I never owned a gun. After my bike racing career was over I wanted to do something else competing wise to keep me occupied. My mate worked with a CPSA coach so he took us shooting and I borrowed my dad’s gun. Luckily it wasn’t skeet and I got hooked, I think I got about 40 something on my first hundred, then I met Chard and thought about giving up...... canthitathing
I went with a mate just out of curiosity and enjoyed it, but then did a corporate day soon after and was hooked. This year is the first time I've travelled to other grounds and shot in comps, mainly with some top blokes (and some total bellends ) from PW. I'd shoot comps every Sunday if I could............It's addictive, particularly in the presence of El Magnifico
BerettaSV10
Got invited to try it as I was not getting out much and a good excuse to have time off from work, my. An instuctor went through the basics of gun handling / safety etc, got hooked streight away and my SGC application was in the post within the next few days. What surpised me was my local police station did not hold application forms and had to go further afield to get the form. Hamster
I saw an ad in the local paper for an Open shoot , prior to that I had assumed you had to be a member, turned up and shot something like 12x15 simple tower birds on the beginners stand and haven't been able to get enough since. Bloke
Used to help my mate out with a bit of vermin bashing 35+ years ago, not shot since. After having to retire on medical grounds, the doctors said I couldn't drive any more, so the car and all three bikes had to go, so I was bored rigid, whilst at the same time not really mobile. In between hospital appointments, we passed a local clay ground - Ancholme Valley, it looked like fun. I popped in for a try one weekend and was hooked. As Christopher Lee says about golf, clays are the most fun and the most frustration at the same time, still enjoying it, now going for FAC. Rupert
I was looking for a new hobby i could do with the missus as she wont dive in cold water and i had packed up gearbox karts. We went and had a few gun handling/safety sessions at a local club and that was it.She admitted later she only went to pacify me but it grew on her.She wins the big trophies now. TaxiDriver
I just fancied having a go for as long as I remember, starting popping in my local gun shop and asking lots of questions, was invited to visit a local sporting shoot to see what goes on. Over 2 or 3 weeks different people let me have a go using different guns and then I bought a 12g Rizzini and my rfd kept it and brought it out on sundays for me whilst I waited for my SGC. I started off pretty rubbish, now after 6-7 months, I'm absolutely ****. Edited November 20, 2011 by TaxiDriver
