tide flight on dusk today on the wash

well i have been on holiday this week so i thought i would get a few flights in down the marsh , i had a look at the tides for the week decided that it would be better later on towards the end of the week with the tides running on dark , i had a couple flights earlier in the week with some good results ..

well today the tide was at 16.10 today and a 7.1... which i knew would make the creek tops and it would be ok to sit it out .. well i was pushed for time today with getting ready for the farm shoot on friday , i was a bit late getting down to the gate and when i got there , there was about 20 twitchers on the see wall and i had to walk through the middle of them . :o :look: well as i got closer , i could feel there eyes all over me i just said good afternoon to them and was on my way but one had to say something but i just blanked him ..

i set off along the sea wall and met 2 more twitchers who i have seen on a few occasions down there, i stopped for a quick chat with them and they said there was plenty of fowl flying about with this tide , i agreed and said i was more or less going out to the front if i could beat the tide to the big creek i had to cross to get to where i wanted to be ,they just shook there head and said i was mad , i said my goodbye and was on my way again ...

well i knew i was running late, so i made quick pace across the marsh trying to get out to my chosen spot in time ... there was plenty of fowl flying about on the way out .. which got me more or less running at one stage and i broke into a good sweat but i made good time to where i had to cross the creek but it was to late... it was well in flood **** i thought , so now it was a change of plan , so i carried on walking up the side of the creek and got in a little run off that came off the big creek ..

i got settled and got the mutt in and looked back towards the sea wall i could see all the twitchers on there .. i had a little laugh to myself and thought all eyes would be on me .well 10 minutes into the flight 7 teal came up the creek towards me , i took one with my first shot which sent the rest vertical and taking another 2 for 2 shots a nice 3 out of 3 all clean kills ...

well the tide started making into my little creek and around my knees , i thought to myself that feels a little cold in my left boot , then i thought that feels a little cold in my right boot arr 2 holes in my chest waders... well i was wet now so what could i do , it was well into the flight and i had few more ducks shot , so i put the gun down and got the camera out to take a few pics of a fantastic sun set ..

well as always it got dark and i set off back to the sea wall with my waders full of water and squelching all the way ...

but all in all if was a great flight with some great sights and the sounds of pinks in the distance ...

here is a few pics , i hope you enjoy ..

top class post m8, fantastic wright up. and them sun sets...... well!!! thats the type of sight that just gets etched in your mind! whos the crazy one when you get to see the world like that?

hi guys thanks for the replies ...

alot of people don't understand why i love wildfowling so much they just think it's madness going out in the dark and all bad weather just to get wet , cold and covered in mud ...

but how many people would see things that wildfowlers do when out on the foreshore, marshes, etc ?? ..

just seeing my young dog work yesterday made the flight for me , knowing all the hard work that has gone in through the summer months has paid off... this is his first full season and he's doing well , were both learning from each other every time where out , he has tried my patience a couple of times but on one occasion he was right and i was wrong , i thought the bird had dropped to my right but it was behind me and he knew and i was trying to send him on right :/ ...

Excellent stuff, I always get the urge to leave my clinic and take off for the marshes when I read these sort of posts.

Great report and lovely pictures. Like you said many think we are mad to do what we do, but the sights we see out there cannot be beaten anywhere. But not everyone appreciates how wonderful Fowling is. Its just great to be there, a place to shut off from the pressures of work and a great place to get away from a nagging Mrs. I don't mind if I don't shoot a thing (its a bonus if you do) but the views and solitude are priceless.

I guess the were taken on Kirton ?? I noticed the two tall Pylons over the dock at Boston. I have not been on Kirton for many years, the last time I went there Sid Wright was still a guide !!!

Many times I have walked off the marsh to be met by Birdy Boys (and girls) and had a chat with them to be polite. They had arrived to see the waders and do a wader count, my reply was always 'shame you are to late and missed them'

Nice black dog too.

Thanks for the report.

When I posted I then thought about it and realised it couldn't be Boston or you would have been in the wash lol. Not been out from 'the dogs' for years now. Do you ever go to the clay shoots on Sundays ?? Or do they still have them ?? Used to good fun on Sundays, nobody ever shot a straight because if you shot well they would stick 3 in the trap ;)
