EdSolomons
Is it any good? Heard some decent reports a while back (I think). There is an England selection up there in April apparently. Worth a trip?

Gordon R
Aspiring to be Hodnet and Catton Hall, but not quite there with the clubhouse. Nicely maintained ground with a few decent layouts. Definitely worth a visit.

paulos
Yes Ed well worth a visit ! Go on Gordon what is wrong with the club house at Coniston ? I'm really intrigued to hear this one. The kitchen is badly positioned and the hatch is too small. Rest is bang tidy though
EdSolomons
I hate a poorly possitioned kitchen hatch. Might not go now.
paulos
I wouldn't blame you I did once pay about £3.50 for a bowl of beef broth there - I was looking forward to some hearty, home-made countrified soup, only to witness them take a tin of Heinz from the cupboard and bung it in the microwave. Robbing swines.

Chard
Yes, the serving hatch is so small, you can't use it as a Buzzard-shooting hide. I'd give it a swerve, Ed
canthitathing
I'd love to shoot there but I can never get my gun out of the cabinet ........true Story
timps
They had some lovely cabinets for sale at the ground as well.

Ed, you will be glad to hear I've rung Peter Manley and cancelled this year's England selection shoot there, due to the kitchen hatch not meeting the CPSA regulations  Edited January 19, 2012 by Ian E

timps
I was a tad grumpy that Sunday for sure . Timps photo of the new cabinet helped things along...................NOT!!! I was just trying to help, I mean a brand new cabinet for sale and yours jammed stuck and all, I figured the photo would help as you might want to buy it. Plus the fact we had to wait for our food as chard had got stuck in the small poorly positioned hatch to the kitchen whilst trying to buy a Buzzard sandwich..... whiskymac
Great place to shoot Ed, shot there a few times and enjoyed the targets, lovely part of the world and I always thought the clubhouse was spot on, especially if you get sat in front of their roaring fire after a cold day. Mr Potter
Ed, I think they use Keith Roe to set the targets for there annual!!! FITASC shoot and the ESP selection shoots, Northern region for the last few years. It helps because they don't hold regular registered comps so the place and targets always appears fresh. In my view the ESP shoots have been OK+, well run, some hard targets (4 single [FUG] long quartering away birds from a very high tower), nothing too simple or easy and the rest are all testing without being impossible. I suspect you will go away well satisfied, not singing from the rooftops perhaps but certainly not disappointed. The annual FITASC shoot is certainly worth getting on though, old style so only 72 guns and really enjoyable, all us old fogies camped in the cabin reminiscing about the ounce and quarter days See you there Potter
EdSolomons
Sounds good! Only a few more weeks and I'll have the gun out the cabinet again and get back to trying to hit a few. If I see you up there I'll let you buy me a coffee and a curlew frittata.
100milesaway
It also sports a rather nice hotel at the ground, quite pricey but nice, it's on Conistons website but lots of other nice B/Bs locally if you are travelling any milage. from Auntie. notsosureshot
Are you guys talking about Coniston Cold? As in, the hotel with shooting facilities/4x4 etc etc? Someone mentioned it to me recently, said it was a cracking place. Looked a little pricey though.
