Al69ec
Had a thought about this today.... I've seen a solar panel on amazon. It's 12v 60ma for leisure use, weighs next to nothing and costs £25. I'm sure you could run whirlies and stuff off this. What's your thoughts? Cranfield
Don't you need sun for those things ?
Al69ec
Just light, it can be overcast and still operate
CZ550Kevlar
isn`t a rotary basically a windscreen wiper motor? i`m sure they must use more than 60 ma. also as cranfield says sunlight is usually helpful.
Al69ec
They run off day light, doesn't matter if the suns not shining, as long as its not night.
southeastpete
i doubt it would run one. Might be able to 'subsidise' a smaller battery to run for longer though...
Catweazle
It might supply 60mA, but your magnet will need 500mA.
deny essex
You would possibly need 33 of said panels to run the average whirly, average whirly power consumption is around 2 amp. Think I will stick to carrying a battery
RC45
You could use a Solar Panel to trickle charge your battery whilst your not using it.
Mike525steel
Take your fully charged battery and time how long it takes to kill it with your whirlybird and do the sum Ah marked on the battery divided by the time taken to kill it in hours equals rough power consumption of battery in amps I'd be surprised if it will run it Don't know how the pigeons would take that shiny plate in the pattern though
big simmo999
Hmm - it's certainly a step in the right direction - but i would think we are a few years away from getting anything powerful enough
bullet1747
NO it won't work sorry mate
paulr5604
You would have to be careful of the reflection scaring pigeons off
brett1985
my partners dad uses one to help his battery last longer when he's out. on a slow speed it does seem to work, kind of. not too sure how much difference it makes overall though, probably not enough to notice...lol
stu nesling
better off sticking to a battery. i doubt it would even run a flapper prob not stand up to the stick most shooters give their kit either, they are a bit fragile. welshwarrior
Great idea mate sound like a great plan when I bought one from Maplins as the others have suggested it didn't work!!! Wonder why I had a better idea than the rest of the world for once!!!! I do trickle charge my battery with it now between days out.
eggjr0151
i agree with the reflection problem scareing them off but definetly a step in the right direction
Al69ec
You can buy an anti reflective coating for solar panels, similar to what's used for optical equipment and power boosters for optimum efficiency. I think it may work with a less powerful rotar combined with a larger cog for more revolutions.
