Whitebridges
Hi Karl, I would strongly recommend the Eley HB 32g 6.5 shot pigeon load, they are a cracking shell and I think used by a lot of people on this forum. They work great in my beretta auto as well. What eley shell can you get? My experience is they are all pretty good
karl h
Hi mate they are the Hi flyers 6 30gr can get them at mo for £26 a crate at mo I use Hull special pigeon and looked at the stats the eley seem to be a harder hitting cartridge but as never compared would not know
henry d
The Eley impax carts were good so I imagine they will be of the same good quality and at that price a steal.

Baldrick
I was told by two gunsmiths that Eley really sorted its act out over the past 2 years, after a long period where they were producing substandard cartridges and receiving a lot of negative press. I've started back on Eley and I'm impressed. In contrast, the once-great Winchester cartridges are now the victims of cost-cutting.

Dunkield
Topical thread this... I just called up for some Express prices and have bee told they are taking the you know what on pricing so they don't stock them at the moment. So, what are Eley Firsts like in plastic and Fibre anyone? Or Gamebore XLR in plastic and fibre?
Baldrick
Eley First (in both wads) are great. Cheap and punchy. I found Express cartridges to be expensive, but nothing like as pricey as RC ammo. I had to pay £45 for 250 RC 20b cartridges the other day. Dunkield
Excellent, thanks for the quick reply, I can get the Firsts for £103/1000 which seems very fair to me
Stumpy1
Used the Eley Hi Flyer on all my driven game and flighting last season. Mainly 32g 5's and 28gm 6's. Both are hard hitting, reliable and pattern well. Recoil is as would be expected through a relatively weighty o/u. I'll be using them again this season if the price hasn't gone through the roof. Hope this helps?
henry d
Used the Eley Hi Flyer on all my driven game and flighting last season. That would be Pigeon flighting ??

Dunkield
I am guessing they ain't steel/bismuth etc ?
Whitebridges
Karl, prior to using Eley Hb's I shot my way through 3,000 Hull Cartridge Pigeon Specials 32g and 30g and they are also a mighty fine shell. They are softer shooting than the Eley IMHO. Good luck, sounds as though you have found a bargain mate.
Ears
Have a look at www.eleyhawk.co.uk and see if there any info on them. Never shot high flyers so cannot help or advise. though i have used hb pigeon and vip game they are both OK. But if the price is right, try a create and see for yourself thats my opinion. Hi Flyers 30gram 6 shot are 1400fps on the muzzle and observed velocity is 1090fps
invector
Eley HB Pigeon 6.5 32g for me, EVERY time! I've stopped comparing cartridges now and go with the Eleys, permanently. I use the felt wads.
bertie
Shot a few different types of eley cartridge, never had a problem with any of them, and most use was in semi's. They hit hard and kill quick. All you need to do is hit your target!

plinker
i use eley hb and express i cant fault them for the money eley first however in fibre wad are not very good due to **** wad material pay a bit more about £121 (fibre) and get eley vip they are a fantastic clay cartridge really hard hitting you will have definitley brought a few birds using them over eley first. plinker
Dunkield
Giving it a bit more thought I have now bought: Eley Superb plastics for clays, Eley VIP Fibre's for fibre only clays, and few Eley HB Pigeon's to try as well. I will wait until Express sort themselves out before I buy any more Fibre HV's, which is a pity 'cos I rate them, but for the same, or similar money I can get VIP's at the moment. MC
I have just started to use Eley Superb's in 8's for sporting clays and find them to be a nice smooth and hard hitting cartridge. In the past I ahve always found Eley's to be quite soft. Especially in their bismuth wildfowl loads. I may be tempted to try a box if I can afford them this year.
