eley carts.

I was told by two gunsmiths that Eley really sorted its act out over the past 2 years, after a long period where they were producing substandard cartridges and receiving a lot of negative press. I've started back on Eley and I'm impressed. In contrast, the once-great Winchester cartridges are now the victims of cost-cutting.

Hi Karl, I would strongly recommend the Eley HB 32g 6.5 shot pigeon load, they are a cracking shell and I think used by a lot of people on this forum. They work great in my beretta auto as well.

What eley shell can you get? My experience is they are all pretty good :)

Yep, Eley HB Pigeon 32g 6.5, fantastic cartridges. Hit like an express train

Topical thread this...

I just called up for some Express prices and have bee told they are taking the you know what on pricing so they don't stock them at the moment.

So, what are Eley Firsts like in plastic and Fibre anyone?

Or Gamebore XLR in plastic and fibre?

Used the Eley Hi Flyer on all my driven game and flighting last season. Mainly 32g 5's and 28gm 6's.

Both are hard hitting, reliable and pattern well. Recoil is as would be expected through a relatively weighty o/u.

I'll be using them again this season if the price hasn't gone through the roof.

Hope this helps?

Have a look at www.eleyhawk.co.uk and see if there any info on them. Never shot high flyers so cannot help or advise. though i have used hb pigeon and vip game they are both OK.

But if the price is right, try a create and see for yourself thats my opinion.

Hi Flyers 30gram 6 shot are 1400fps on the muzzle and observed velocity is 1090fps :good:

Giving it a bit more thought I have now bought:

Eley Superb plastics for clays, Eley VIP Fibre's for fibre only clays, and few Eley HB Pigeon's to try as well.

I will wait until Express sort themselves out before I buy any more Fibre HV's, which is a pity 'cos I rate them, but for the same, or similar money I can get VIP's at the moment.

I have just started to use Eley Superb's in 8's for sporting clays and find them to be a nice smooth and hard hitting cartridge.

In the past I ahve always found Eley's to be quite soft. Especially in their bismuth wildfowl loads. I may be tempted to try a box if I can afford them this year.

Cheers

Martin
