Hamster
Many moons ago I used to put a Cyl and 1/4 in my Laurona O/U and providing you shoot them over deeks at close range it can be very effective. The thing that no doubt helped was that everything was 32 gram loads back then. Lately with reduced loads like the 28 gram I tend to go much tighter but it does mean I can be adventurous with the layout and chase the ones that don't come in. In short keep the range short. wymberley
No problem if you keep the range sensible. May just pay to quickly check the spread though as more often than not a truly true cylinder will shoot more open than the oft quoted figure, or, a true cylinder that actually shoots said oft quoted figure more often than not has a couple of thou's restriction. To save you looking for it, at 20 yards you're looking for a 32" spread for the bulk of the load.

miroku4399
I use cyl and 1/4 choke for shooting pigeons and I have found that I get more now than when I was using tighter chokes. Shane
sitsinhedges
If you are shooting close in with a cylinder choke you could afford to go to a smaller shotsize to keep up pattern density because at close range even smaller pellets will have enough energy to do the job Edited March 31, 2012 by sitsinhedges

You will find that the pattern starts to fail at about 30-35 yards, you get birds hit and not stopping. I used to use a Miroku 700 ( yes 700) skeet gun in the field for some years in the mid 70s. At one point I tried a few skeet 9s to see what would happen, anything over the decoy pattern that was well hit died. A
Mike525steel
Keep the loads 30g and above and don't get crazy on range 40 yards max

It's the other way around! You're supposed to put orange sauce on the duck, not duck sauce on the orange. :o
ditchman
Use nothing else except cyl & 1/4 with 26" barrels and 28g 6's (used to use 7's)
