hedd-wyn
Right then, I've decided that an air rifle is a must in my collection. Having been on my permission long enough I have some to found that there are some areas not suitable for shotguns, firearms and only a decent air rifle could do the job properly. Also will want it for some rabbit hunting on a new permission, and not really ready for my FAC yet so air rifle would be a better option. I have shot many air rifles in the past and the Weihrauch is the one I enjoyed the most. It has to be a break barrel which kind of narrows down my options down to the HW80, HW95, or the HW98...which I don't really know much about I initially stated on another thread that I was going for the HW95, but some replies have made me think. Any idea? pros and cons? Would really appreciate it, will be buying it the end of this month as a birthday present off the mrs Diolch Carwyn
FalconFN
HW80 is a classic, well made and great to shoot, not too heavy and will do exactly what you want it to. I loved my HW98, it is very well balanced and had adjustable stock so very easy to get a good fit, but it is heavy. I believe it has the same action as the 95 but has an added barrel sleeve for balance. Never shot a HW95 so I can't add anything there. Dougy
If you can find a decent 80/35e or a 77 i would grab it. The new ones have been brought into the 21st century modified internals pistons ect also the gas ram from Theoben has been used replacing the spring. all very good. Its just the origanal,s have a place in my heart as i owned all the early models and sold them for a woman
fenboy
Nothing wrong at all with the 95 had one for a good while and it was excellent so dont know whats put you off. having said that if you think you will get a FAC in the near future I would get the HW80 as it is by far the best springer to have if you want to get it FAC tuned , 18ft lb is suppose to be ideal Edited April 11, 2012 by fenboy
durbsguy
Are the HW98's fairly new then? Used to shoot air rifles years ago but can't remember ever hearing about it The 98 have been around for several that I know about. Not very popular though I think they are a jacked up version of the 95 with the fully shrouded barrel and adjustable cheek piece that was made for hft. In regards to which break barrel 80 is the way forward for you originally designed for fac.
jgguinness
The only Weihrauch I have owned is a HW80K. I think the later ones are easier to put a silencer on. AFAIK they were initially designed to be in FAC power levels and had to be detuned for the UK market, therefore some internal dimensions are bigger, over engineered than other HW models. They can be a bit twangy but there are folk around who can supply kits to make them much smoother. There is a Weihrauch owners forum, that I am sure will be a wealth of information for you http://weihrauchowners.freeforums.org/index.php I have shot other models, years ago so couldn't comment. Kind regards Jonathan
chrisjpainter
I used to have a 95k and loved; it! properly good bunny basher that wasn't too heavy. Great little shooter, although it was fairly noisy; even for a springer. having said that, if i was to look at going for a springer i'd find it very hard to turn down the 95k. I think it also comes in a bit cheaper than the 80? If you're not going to bump it up to FAC I don't think you lose anything by saving yourself a bit of cash! bullet boy
When the word Weihrauch comes up the only rifle immediately springs to mind is the HW80!This rifle has it's legendary status as being a quality, well made, and extremely accurate spring rifle! If I was getting a break-barrel now I would look no further than the fantastic HW80! The next rifle to the HW80 i would look at would be the HW90 with the unique "Gas-Ram" system! ATB in whatever you choose but there's only one for me-Weihrauch HW80!
dougall
HWs are all good. Have had 80/97 and 90. If you are not worried by weight I think the 90 would be my recommendation,I would then chose 97 over 80. 90 has the Theoben gas ram,and is quieter and smoother than the others.I think it is nearest thing to pcp accuracy without all that gas/pumps and faffing around mallarkey! bruno22rf
If you only do one thing before you decide which HW to choose-do yourself a favour and try a TX200-after doing so your only question will be which caliber TX to buy.Dont get me wrong-I've used and loved a great many HW's over the years but I have to admit, hand on heart, that the TX simply outclasses them.To help you with your new dilemma-go for the .

secretagentmole
The wife had one of the last mark 1 HW 95s in .177. Out of the box it was quiet, low spring noise and unusually for the fairer calibre, not that much damned recoil. In fact it had abotu the same recoil as my TX200 mark 1. So the HW95 mark 1 is one to look out for. Accurate, quiet and hot half a ton of wood at the non bang end!
hedd-wyn
Well guys, went for a trip down to Gwynedd Firearms for a stag at the air rifles there. There was a second hand HW98 there scoped for £345, even thought she was on the heavy side I really liked it and nearly put a deposit down there and then. Txt my mate and told him that I was thinking of buying it and he offered to sell me his mint condition TX200 for £250!!! :o Aaaaaaargh! What to do? He's going to drop it off over the weekend for me to 'try it out' before I buy.
chrisjpainter
Well, if you try and fall in love with it, what's the problem?! no point in being sentimental about these things, if the TX is right for you, go for it and stuff all us HW fans! Try before you buy is brilliant as you'll get to find what it's actually like to shoot and move with rather than just waving it around the shop a bit. And if it's a total disaster, that's one ruled off the list! Let us know how you get on!
FalconFN
I sold my scoped HW98 for £245 and you can buy them new for about £380, if I were you I would go for the TX200 and put a decent scope on it (if it hasn't already got one), they are fantatstic rifles. hedd-wyn
Cheers for the advice guys. Will try it out on Saturday and post a full review. The only concern I have is that it's a right handed T200, and being a left hander I'm worried that the sharp side of the cheek pad might be uncomfortable. But at least I'l have the chance to try it first, the seller happens to be my shooting partner so doubt he will try rip me off Can't remember what scope it has mounted on it but it seemed top notch and the rifle itself is immaculate. durbsguy
If you do buy the right handed tx200 and decide to buy a left handed checkout some of Lukas Parsley's work. http://www.lukasz-pietruszka.hostit.pl/news.php
