AVB
Rupert. I agree ..... Will do nothing to help Merseyside either..... Seb Coe ( Creep ) never as good a runner as ...Steve Ovett. Agreed the Olympics won't help Merseyside. The only thing that would would be a nuclear warhead.
Dunkield
Cant see how watching a flame run past would be an exciting or enjoyable spectacle. I think people kid themselves that its worth going to see. Now a silverstone grand prix would be interesting, or a wimbledon mens final! Nobody has said it is exciting. I haven't been to Wimbledon but I have been to the GP at Silverstone, and it wasn't a lot more exciting than paint drying (the 4 hours to get in and out didn't help either) - but each to their own
artschool
Without tourism Cornwall would be a hole like many other areas. Its the money coming in that keeps it as good as it is. Sad but true. Am just joshing! I had a holiday in st Ives last year and thought it was great.

Zapp
I've no interest in athletics of any flavour, so I'll find something else to do. With the Olympics and the Euro football plus Wimbledon, I might as well pop the telly in the loft this summer and have a bit of extra space in the living room. You know what i meant but you just felt the need to pull my post apart. When you go to an event you go for either one or both of those reasons. ME
Without tourism Cornwall would be a hole like many other areas. Its the money coming in that keeps it as good as it is. Sad but true. Are you riding the current wave...or do you seriously think that anyone will be interested in the Olympic torch route after the event? Will this event bring increased revenue to your business after September?
Thunderbird
I expect I'll spend the summer doing as much shooting as possible. Like normal.
Dunkield
I now own 50" of **** tv programming until Christmas. Do you think there will anything worth watching at Christmas? I will watch odd bits of the Olympics, but I am not interested in Football or Tennis. Apart from Homeland (which will no doubt be milked to death and therefore ruined) and Celeb Juice and couple of other comedy programs what the hell is there on the box to look forward to? Thunderbird
Speaking of milking to death I saw the season finale of Homeland last night. Interesting to see what the premise of season 2 will be. I've just started on season 2 of The Wire too. Looks promising so far.

Will this event bring increased revenue to your business after September? The route is about 9 miles at its closest to my place, i am talking about Cornwall as a whole any positive advertising is a bonus and may well bring in more people to Cornwall. As for business after September, does not mater to me as we close at the end of September
rimfire4969
I have just got back from seeing the torch, it was a very good, crowds 4 or 5 deep on the pavements lining the route, loads of flags out, party atmosphere. I was really pleased and proud to see a friend start things of with the torch in Newquay.
smig4373
Exciting and enjoyable???....On the route in Bodmin....Theres a fete/show/mini festival on the park, whatever you want to call it....100's of people on the park enjoying the sunshine...Kids everywhere...flags,bands stalls etc...all very english...AND enjoyable... Dunk...your right...these type of threads really do bring out the miseries... Kev..Glad the sites full...Ive just been down Mitchell/summercourt/portreath and there's a marked increase in people milling about..all good for LOCAL business's..As it will be for all business's on the torch route... Here's a quick thought...When the Olympics were 'given' to London.(2005)..we were/the world was enjoying good economic times..Who was to predict it would be like this today....what are we supposed to do.??...cancel it... :hmm: Edited May 19, 2012 by smig4373

CharlieT
And just to prove how many torch lovers there aare out there check out "Bay Watch" and see what some idiots are bidding for torches. Currently one is at £130,000.00 and one went earlier for even more. Ruddy humbug to it all.
