ack-ack
There's your answer - go to hospital get sick The big problem is the older generation seeing their peers going in and coming out with MRSA etc. My old fella walks like an auger due to his hips being so bad. He would rather live in pain than run the gauntlet. I can see the miserable old sod getting worse by the week. He's 70 and physically fit but its ruining his life. MM
dont worry i hav stabd me sell lodes ov times wen i used to work in the slaughterhouse full off blood and kite and im still ok will swell up but that abwt it yeah, but i think its ballsed up your spelling Here is another one for ya. Went into hospital with the wife in full labour. Went in for a baby, came out with septicaemia. I had a small cut on my finger, and never thought about it. After 10 hours of the wife squeezing it, the muck and germs had got in. As i left, a nurse pulled me to one side and said instead of going to the pub, go striaght to A&E as there is a bright red line going from your hand, right up your neck.

krugerandsmith
I need some advice from any of the medics on here. I stupidly stabbed my finger with a knife while trying to take my fish tank filter apart (so the blade was covered in tropical fish tank water and dirty stuff). It's not a big cut but deep and near the knuckle. I stopped the bleeding and cleaned it as best I good. Thought it was Ok. Now a couple of hours later finger is swelling up and gone stiff. Very painful and pain is spreading down hand. I think my jabs are up to date. If I was in the UK I would pop to the walk in centre but I am in India and it's a trek to nearest decent hospital. I am being serious. Do I man it out or run to the hospital? AVB. If you have any doubts ..... Contact ...Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Paddy Galore!
hows this? got a chest infection, turned into pluracy, immune system went a bit mental and started attacking my own blood vessels, this type is called wegeners granulamatosis, caused some severe kidney disease, peeing blood etc, then they stopped working for a couple of days, got treated at hossy for the auto immune thing, low dose chemo/high dose steroids, picked up another infection which settled on my aortic valve, a year later and progressively getting worse had an AVR, then a bloody stroke on the slab! For cryin out loud! Just to top that off, because i was on such a high constant dose of steroids, it weakened the muscle tissue in the old ticker, so some of the stitches pulled out that were holding the valve in so it leaks just as bad as before Edited May 27, 2012 by GRAM71

Paul T
Are there any healthy people on PW or are we a home for the afflicted? Certainly a forum for the afflicted by the looks of it . I think it's inevitable really, given we're all sport orientated (or at least fairly active  ), that we pick up all manner of injuries and other uninvited ailments along the way. I'm back at the hospital early June for another assessment on my back . On the 'home' element, perhaps we could all chip in for a PW Nursing Home?? At least we'd have something to talk (argue?) about and maybe a round of clays in grounds on an afternoon

AVB
AVB,How are you feeling today ?and how is the injury?what was the out come Still here thanks. Not dead yet. Swelling on hand has gone down but finger itself is still very swollen and stiff (titter titter). Am on some strong antibiotics. Not sure about this forum being the home of the afflicted. In my case home for the stupid.
Bionic Man
Hope the injured digit improves. Don't forget to complete the course of antibiotics, even if the stiffness and swelling subside. Also have you seen the size of this smiley blokes thumb....... !!

We would need a central location. I will have a look around to see if I can find a suitable property for sale then pass the details to the forum for their approval. officerdibble777
Are there any healthy people on PW or are we a home for the afflicted? option 2 for me Shaun,I sustained massive injuries to my leg a while back, and nearly lost it.After the big fight to save it including bone grafts muscle grafts and countless skin grafts, all was going great for ages until one day I got up and couldn't put my weight on it.Tried to go into work for a while but the nurse sent me home, said I'd got a groin strain.I went home to bed and for 3 days I sweated ,shivered and puked..My leg had swollen up and went purple /red and very sore. The doctor came in and gave my Mrs a letter for the hospital, put me in the car and phoned ahead to let them know I was on the way up.Turns out I had osteomylitis in the bone and cellulitis in the tissue, that had now turned into ceptasaemia. They tried to fight it with drugs, but in the end it just didn't get better and I lost it.Life was hard for a while, but it got better and Iv'e no complaints so when you open the the home for old duffers give me a call. john
