fiiish1987
I used to think it was religion but thats always been the excuse to cover the fact that it was for money. Take the 100yr war. We marched an entire army on a transect through france burning raping and pillaging all. wen it came to a battle anyone rich was ransomed after and not killed. that way a few nobles could pay for a campain and the rest was profit. In fact on a long running campaign, if you were lucky you could ransom someone, release them and then capture and ransom them again in the next battle! lol In the crucades it was the slaves trade and land that brought us. the fact that the land was holy was only an added bonus to its value. Greed has always been the drive of mankind and imo always will be.
NorfolkBoy
It's interesting to read about the strength of feeling people have about immigrants in the UK. I can't help (as an immigrant in the US) to draw comparisons between the US and the UK. The main difference I believe is that if you REALLY want to live in the US (similar to Canada/OZ and NZ) that you have to prove to the govenrment that A. Your not a threat to national security. And B. you've actually got something to CONTRIBUTE to society and not simply financially leech off the state. I live in the most densely populated area on the East Coast with a vast multi ethnic population who seem to live quite peacefully side by side. It ain't perfect by any stretch of the imagination but you get out what you put in and most who have migrated here for whatever reason don't seem to want to rock the boat...... Have a nice day..... Highlander
Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door. Believe that's written on/under the Statue of Liberty. Difference is between our one time colonies and home is they've moved on into the modern world whilst we (or at least our government) believe in opening the doors to all comers and many of them are the worlds dregs. When Hong Kong was being readied for the hand back to China I believe that our colonial friends sold passports, certainly Canada did, for hundreds of thousands of dollars to those that could afford it. Result...those countries ended up with the cream of the crop, the entrepreneurs, the guys that had made it. What did we do...the usual, turned a blind eye and let all those without the wherewithall to enter. Now I'm not anti Chinese (never seen one of them asking for handouts) or any other hard working immigrants but here in the UK we seem to have more than our fair share of space wasters although I'll admit that does include a number of home grown 'white trash' Must be that time of the month as this one is really getting me up there
Wookie
It's easy to get worked up about this sort of thing. I'm rapidly getting annoyed with this country and sooner or later I'm going to start looking for a way out. Where would I go though? Is there anywhere that's not just as messed up? henry d
Getting back on tack...............my sis in law is here at the moment and will be flying home to Exeter soon, Flybe have had 90% of their flights only delayed by less than an hour and 10% within 2 hrs. So it would appear that the domestic flights are seen to be less of a target.
Axe
I know we are meant to have a stiff upper lip and all that, carrying on as normal. But i'm not sure i'd want to chance flying at the moment.
Baldrick
Even living as a nomad in a yurt on the Mongolian plains has more appeal than continuing to be a British citizen for much longer. There's far fewer oxygen-thieving scrotes out there.

Wookie
Oh no! Now we've descended to puns! Well, flights are still disrupted to Heathrow, Stanstead and Gatwick. Luton's not mentioned, so I am guessing (note the word) that we should be ok. Our flight's at 06:30, so we bloody should be! By the way, guessing is the correct word, because the SleazyJet phone systems was engaged, then broken yesterday, then totally useless when I did get through. Cheap flights eh! Who'd have 'em? The Sniper
This topic is now four pages long and nobody has chosen to comment on the fact that the security services and Police have obviously foiled a spectacular.
