Blunderbuss
Whilst I love to experiment and try all sorts of beers, I have to have a staple I can always rely on to keep in the fridge, which has to satisfy certain criteria, namely: . Is available on draft, but crucially also in bottles or cans, and tastes acceptable when so packaged . Is readily available in most supermarkets . Is relatively easy drinking - no 7-9% loopy juice, but with a bit of flavour. A session ale if you will I do like to try more challenging beers, but what I'm talking about here is your old faithful standby which you can ask the missus to lob in the trolley at the supermarket when stocks are running low, and crack open knowing it's going to reliably hit the spot when you're not feeling adventurous an d prepared to gamble on a new brew. I hope it goes without saying that I am referring to beer not laaaager In the past the following brews have occupied this slot in the Blunderbuss household: Spitfire; Old Hooky; Old Speckled Hen; Bombardier; London Pride. Currently it is either St Austell Tribute or Bath Ales Wild Hare IPA. What's yours?

Thunderbird
A good pint of Bass is a thing of beauty. Got to be stored and served well, done right it's magic.
silpig5
i must admit , im a bit struck by the 2 stubbies (25cl) aldi stock , 1 is a blondie @2.6% 1.99 for 8 just right to sink straight after work and wont tip you near the edge , 2nd is the blue label one that is 4.8 % 3.45 for 10 again just enough to have a couple and still be ok for the eveing . it also helps as my mrs works at the aldi store and brings them home ! Blunderbuss
Landlord, Tribute, Black Sheep, Doom Bar, Eagle. Pretty much in that order. Tim Taylor's Landlord is always a good bet, but hard to find bottled round here :( A good pint of Bass is a thing of beauty. Got to be stored and served well, done right it's magic. Maybe I've been unlucky, but I've yet to experience a good pint of Bass.
Gutty Boots
If you like Old Speckled Hen, try Old Golden Hen too, mmmm lovely!
twitchynik
Tim Taylor's Landlord is always a good bet, but hard to find bottled round here :( I don't rate it bottled, would go for some St Peters Brewery bottles if buying it that way. In general an IPA in bottle form and slightly chilled is hard to beat on a warm day

Kes
I can see you like your beer from the avatar ! My personal favourites are First Gold,(Badger) and another badger named Golden Glory- made with peach falvouring) and Hobgoblin. I find Speckled Hen a bit 'hot' with resulting headache after 1/2. Any Joules ales will find their way into the fridge (nostalgia). Most Badgers are to my taste and also Bombadier -on the heavy side though. When I can get it The dogs ******** is a gem. The best for me - First Gold
Blunderbuss
I can see you like your beer from the avatar ! I grew up in Blacon, what do you expect? I'm only 23 :o My personal favourites are First Gold,(Badger) and another badger named Golden Glory- made with peach falvouring) and Hobgoblin. The best for me - First Gold I quite like the Badger Ales and some of the golden ales are OK for a summer barbecue (remember them ), but I do find some of them a bit sweet and "perfumey" if you know what I mean? I also can't be doing with any beer with "honey", "spice", "chocolate" etc in the description. Beer should be bitter, with a strong taste of hops in my mind. Bazooka Joe
Tim Taylor's Landlord is always a good bet, but hard to find bottled round here Tried it in a local bar near ours... ...only had a couple, but wouldn't mind a decent session on it.. Apart from that, Stones is my favourite beer when in the bar, becoming less & less round ours now, & barbie time has to be Stella. Don't mind the odd session on Bulmers, & when down a certain bar, Old Rosie Cider, hits the pocket aswell as the head.. Ice cold Guinness works a treat also... Blunderbuss
+1 for hobgoblin , also Budvar when i want a cold one Despite my OP, I will occasionally drink a cold pilsner, if a. I'm eating curry or b. it's scorchio has to be Czech or German though. Budvar is good also "Wobbly" (Warsteiner), Bitburger, or Koenig pilnser
kdubya
unfortunately IMHO there is nothing repeat nothing in a can or bottle that comes close to impersonating its draft version, I would rather crawl on my hands and knees to a pub that sold real ale STRONGARM than sit in and sup some reconstituted horse pee.
