barney 66
Hi,i'm looking for a new scope as ive said on a previous post, decided to buy a new Swarovski Z6 was thinking about the i version but NV dsa add on wont fit and that is what i am after later in the year, question is how often do you use your ir ? is it a worthwhile option or not, looking for advice before i make a final decision, Thanks Chris
wymberley
Had the facility on 8 scopes that I can think of straightaway and never used it.
Thunderbird
Had the facility on 8 scopes that I can think of straightaway and never used it. Crikey. That would have paid for an NV sight or two I imagine?
garygreengrass
Never used it on my S&B scope.
Catweazle
I would like an IR for that period when it's still light enough not to need the lamp on, but the reticle is getting difficult to see - especially with a really fine reticle like mine. Thicker reticles don't have that problem but I don't like them.
wymberley
Crikey. That would have paid for an NV sight or two I imagine? With the possible exception of the Leupold which may have cost a bob or two, it's usually pennies. If the scope is what i'm looking for but additionally just happens to have the IR then so be it. I find the stockists are more likely to hold the IR version of a scope than one without provided the range has the option. It seems increasingly that IR is de rigueur now; why I don't know. Thunderbird
I prefer less reticule, more target. But each to their own.
finreid
was considering getting it when deciding on anew scope. but settled on one without and spent the extra money on better glass! not that you can get much better than swaro! Dougy
was considering getting it when deciding on anew scope. but settled on one without and spent the extra money on better glass! not that you can get much better than swaro! Z6i 5-30x50 just a little improvement I missed the red dot on my IOR,it just gave up the ghost, so treated myself. In my oppinion it gives the edge in low ligh conditions having a fine reticule, i also find it quicker to get on to the target. If your not sure try and get out and have a look through some. Sx3 clay breaker
Schmidt and benders usually have the illuminatotor on the side same as meoptas
Bewsher500
i use mine all the time for rabbits when lamping. I prefer to turn the lamp right down and use the IR so the ret is clearer I dont have it on my stalking scopes but can think of at least one occasion where it definitely would have helped
cleaner4hire
95% of the time you wont need it. But the 5% when you do it is invaluable imo. Its **** law that if you dont get it, sooner or later you'll wish you had!!!
barney 66
the downside is if i have it an NV dsa wont fit on with ir
cleaner4hire
true. But there are other manufacturers that do IR. There is very little difference in optical quality when you look at the top brands. Really it depends on how much you want the swaro, if you must have it then your decision is already made for you..... Or you could fit the swaro on qr mounts and get a dedicated NV unit. The reticles on the Z6s are so fine they are quite difficult to see against a dark background, the IR is almost essential I ALWAYS use the IR on my Z6i.. not so on other scopes such as my PMII but the IR on that was designed for a different purpose! Found this to be so on a mates.I prefer the IR on the Leupold VXIII to be honest.
wildfowler.250
Put it like this, if it gets you one or two animals more a year, is it worth it? You may hardly ever use it but its not that much extra
al4x
Its the sort of thing that once you have it it is hard to live without. I've a DSA adaptor that was cut out to fit a scope with IR by its previous owner so there are solutions out there. My Z6 doesn't have IR but I bought it knowing it would be used with NV so far I've not seen anything I couldn't shoot due to not seeing the cross hairs.
