Here's a few from this morning, we had a great day! I bagged 5 teal and then decided that was enough for me :good:

I managed to film (badly) a few of the dogs retrieves, some of them where cracking! This one shows how deceptive the water can be, it looks calm, but the dog was swept a fair distance downstream in a short space of time, and this was only just after the tide had started to run! It was MUCH worse an hour later. Needless to say that was the last shot on the fret before we moved up one of the gutters.

This next one was shot up one of the flooded gutters, more or less at slack water, much easier on the dog!

Just had my best day of the season so far, not my biggest day in terms of numbers but amazing from a species perspective, had Teal, Mallard, Wigeon, Tufted, Shoveller, Gadwall and 3 Pintail, to cap it all have had drakes of each species as well today, absolutely knackered, off to try for the Pochard and Goldeneye later in the week.

Fantastic - Never got anywhere close to that.

Nice work!I take it that you were shooting on an inland wash.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well that's my season finished as I can't manage next weekend. Ended up with 23 geese, 16 mallard, 3 wigeon and 3 teal. Should have had more teal but I shot like an idiot on a few occasions!

It was the lab's first season. A few weeks ago I managed to get her out 60 yards onto the river for a blind retrieve on a mallard at night,(definitely the highlight of the season).

Hope everyone else had a good season. There's duck about at the moment but not much seems to be flighting about?

Had a cracking flight this morning, i had arranged to take Highbird70 and Oscardad out on a guest ticket and passionforangling was also to come along to watch. The tide was poor so i decided to visit a marsh that shoots best with little or no tide. As soon as we got to our positions ducks could be heard out on the river and also flighting in the dark, as quickly as possible i got a few decoys afloat and hoped that the ducks would make an appearance for our guests.

After a little while 2 wigeon dropped into the back of the decoys infront of Oscardad, these were scared off by me taking a drake Mallard as it came from my left. Not to be out done Oscardad took a drake Mallard that decoyed perfectly and then a little while later downed a hen Mallard that came just a little close. The dog made 3 nice retrieves and i was very happy, but as the flight started to look over a single Drake Mallard flew over very high and was turned with some nice calling by my friend Mick who was with Highbird70, a superb shot from him resulting in the 4th Mallard to find the bottom of the bag.

A truly enjoyable flight that was a little unexpected as the season is so close to the end, and to top it off the company and banter was excellent. Hope everybody else has enjoyed there season :good:

I've been out on a few trips over the past few weeks. None of them have been brilliant in terms of bag but i've enjoyed them all the same!

It was a shame to end the season on a blank though, i missed 2 opportunities at greys yesterday, i shot like a total idiot! Never mind looking forward to getting the punt gun started now and hopefully ready for next season! :good:

Here are some pics from the past few flights

The snow came down really hard on this one!

Well that's it, had the last flight this morning. 1 drake Mallard and a triple at crows :good:, i have had a fantastic season for duck on the foreshore ended up with 5 Teal, 2 Wigeon, 1 Gadwall & 13 Mallard. Compared to 8 duck all last season!

Well done!

I am regretting going with you so late in the season as I have to wait so long now to go again lol! Your return for the season is sobering in a way - I thought it was easy getting 2 mallard in a few hours for my first go at fowling. Must just be the experience of my guide...no doubt I have many blanks to come.
