Cyclists - I know you're only trying to help, but...

I rarely have a problem with cyclists on the road - it's the lycra-clad loopies on the foot-paths that really pee me off. They invariably speed past as I'm walking the dogs, then get abusive when the dogs bark at them

I have to admit that I do know a certain someone that got into a bit of a fall out with a cyclist and then did later on that day saw the same cyclist and did the closest 160mph drive by i've ever seen....completely illegal and silly but extremely funny to watch the guy wobble, shake and then raise his fist of doom while waving it madly. :yp:

I did not object to the cyclist taking in scenery in my previous comment but they are using stretches national speed limit road for stupid time trials and endangering themselves and others because they refuse to use the cycle paths they voted for to be built

Last night as we had been out all day we decided to get a takeaway,

as I was driving home a bike rider dressed like a ninja in black, no lights, came straight out of a side turning, spotted him at the last second, but my curry was all over the footwell,

I wont even start about the time trial club who come 30 miles to ride/compete on our local roads, and put up road closed signs.

I only ride off road as i think the roads are too dangerous.

In Edinburgh I saw a cyclist get knocked over and the first thing she did was take her ipod earphones off. I see it all the time here, people riding in busy traffic whilst listening to music. They're already very vulnerable and they block out their hearing. Seems madness to me....

Fellas you should all buy bikes and shed a few of those pounds!

Firstly, You almost never see a road cyclist without a helmet, especially during a race they are mandatory! Helmets are a bit of a fashion item now hence there popularity, they are cheaper than ever and cyclists are a lot more aware of safety than ever. I would pay a tenner to H4H if you showed me a picture of a modern race where cyclists dont wear helmets on the road!

You dont like cyclists because we slow your journey by 30 seconds which you feel is justification to overtake too close and act like a ****!

Finally I am 16 stone, 6 foot and I wear a dayglo "Marmite" sweater, I have reflectors and I use a solid front and rear light. In the last 12 months I have been knocked off my bike 3 times and had countless near misses so you can understand why cyclist might want brighter lights!

My hate of cyclists comes from 3 years being a student in brighton where the bike riding populace did thenmselves no favours breaking every traffic law going then doing there best to interdict your progress just because my car was producing so many tonnes of carbo dioxide in a second ans belching depleted uranium out of its exaust pipe. ,

I was about to have a rant...but at least I've now discovered it's only a symprom of where I live and cyclists in general are sweet and lovely human beings elsewhere.

And 6 foot of muscle son

I'm 6' tall, not lightly built...and I don't get anywhere near 16 stone! I'm betting your a big boned sorta guy.

What is this fascination with my size? just to settle this I've just weighed myself, a paltry 15.8 stone, I'm a 6 ft bloke who trains hard because of my job and I cycle because of a knee injury prevented me from ever running again.

Some might say I'm fat but my mum says I'm cuddly ;-)

Love these debates. Yep, there are muppets on bikes, and an equal number driving vehicles on the road.

As an ex competitive cyclist who did a lot of miles, I was frequently spat at, shouted at, McDonalds/burger king/KFC litter thrown at me, purposely cut up, and put in hospital by drivers who.... "sorry mate I never saw you!".

The best bit of driving I ever saw was a car veering over towards me; the lady driver had a bowl of breakfast resting on her lap, spoon in one hand and phone in the other, steering with her knees. As she was about to hit me, I banged on the side of the car to let her know I was there. Did the trick. I only hope whatever was in the bowl was piping hot, tipped over in her lap and burnt her chuff !! Then there are the other drivers with the newspaper draped over the steering wheel.... or texting....

For those of you have haven't tried it recently (and who are not at risk of collapsing in a heap of cardiac arrest!), give it a go!! you'll be surpised by the different perspective you have of other road users.

Sad thing is as a sport, British cycling has never reached such a global peak as we have in the last few years. We applaud our Olympians, yet have zero tolerance for anyone else active in the sport?

Anyway enough sensible talk on a forum...

My cycling background makes me fit as a butchers dog. The rest of you are heart attacks waiting to happen! Soon you'll be so unfit you'll barely be able to hobble around a clay ground, let alone get out in the field! I look forward to shooting your permissions, whilst you wheeze and puff trying to reach the loo before you fire off a Mk2 ;-)
