Humour me, where's the illegal bit precisely? Are we talking littering or a bag of Brent Geese?

No doubt there will be another "high profile" prosecution you can us updated on, every 20 minutes.

I'm not sure what passes for news up there; you should get out more, oh hang on that won't help.

I predicted the author

Hee Hee. So did I, was obvious though. Although, I wasn't expecting him to defend the cretins from the boot shaped isle...

Also, I rarely shoot on the Internet. I'm more of a pew pew bang in front of the mirror guy.

Orkney Radio report today said of a bag of geese found dumped in a field which have been taken away away for testing & an enquiry will be made ! So who was it ? Well we cant blame Italians for this one as they take all the shot geese away with them so who are the offenders ?.

Hi Polestar,

Offenders???...think about it...could have been forgotten behind unintentionally, I have left behind a lot of stuff in the past...my classic one its the camo-nets, I wouldn't use the word dumped so quick.

The gentleman/s that have been shooting these geese, could have come back later, after realising when they arrived home, that he/they forgotten the bag behind.

About the Italians comment..its not worth the time to answer on that one...

Fully with Pole Star on this one, his OP is obviously about a number of geese being shot and dumped.

Something which has plagued goose shooting in Scotland for years, guns going up there, enjoying a days decoying, usually taking a big bag (bag as in the number shot), then wondering 'what the hell are we going to do with this lot?' So some, or even all, are put into the nearest ditch to rot. A total waste of good meat and not something any decent sportsman would ever condone. If you just want to shoot stuff stick to clay pigeons.

At last an intelligent post ! we don't have a lot to go on at the moment Mark & yes are you right some one may have intended to come back for them but this is not the first time this has happened up & we have had a number of ****** up from down south coming here & just target shooting ! because they think that is what wild fowling is all about , I think these cretins come up here because no clubs will entertain them in their own area ! . . must be rather a large bag to contain many swans or whatever the issue is, I thought they were in pest proportions up your way and a cull going on but we're rather a long way away for the bush telegraph to reach this far.

I'm just impressed someone has spent the money to get orkney on the internet must make fine business sense :whistling:

Sorry Pole Star but you were on a hiding to nothing with your post and subsequent retort. The post did not contain very much information and your reply was guaranteed to elicit obtuse responses.

No right minded sportsman would ever discard a bag of geese as described, though I understand that it does happen and the practice should be frowned upon. The most likely source of information about this will be the locals and more specifically goose guides who may themselves may not be responsible but they will almost certainly be able to find out who was.

Its high time a few posters on here grew up. Anyone who shoots a bag of geese , pheasants or any other game birds and then dumps them in the countryside brings our sport into disrepute and if any of you cant see that you should not be shooting. If we want to be shooting in 50 years time them we have to keep on the right side of public opinion and to a member of the public how can you defend such action. I can remember taking a group of school kids around a woodland reserve where deer shooting was allowed. At the entrance to the wood a stalker had dumped the guts from a red deer shot a few days before hand. It was a mass of flies and maggots and instantly turned 20 kids into antis. It would not have taken much effort to gut the deer off the path and cover the guts up.

Before anyone says they dump their corvids , so do I , but in a dustbin or farm rubbish skip where they are out of sight and any possible antis will not see them. Otherwise the birds I shoot end up on mine , or friends tables or it its a big bag of pigeons down to the game dealers. If anyone starts to shoot more geese than they can get rid of stop shooting.

Point is al4x not much is known yet & I dread this turning up in the local paper & all geese shot in the recent cull were taken off the field & buried or perhaps you think goose dumping is ok ! ? .

There seems to be a lot of of this going on 'lets bag as many geese as we can!' type attitude.

When we're out on the geese we could easily walk home with diuble figures, but we choose not to.

We only take what we need because once you've packed up you need to decide what to do with all that meat, and lets face it wild goose isn't to everyone's taste.

You should only shoot what you need, unless it was for pest control of course and even then you need to need to decide how to appropriatley get rid og the carcaccess.

Just my thought

The news update is that it was approxiamtely 40 graylay geese who had been shot and tied into pairs.

There don't appear to be any laws broken save for those in relation to littering and environmental health.

David Brown from the local environmental health dept. said “The geese have not been de-breasted, which often happens when they are shot to provide meat, and appear to have been shot quite recently,” and “Left in this way, they could have attracted vermin and it is disappointing that whoever did this did not find a more responsible way of disposing of the birds.”

I'm glad to help out with some better detail and more information

It was 40 greylags found tied in pairs inside one of those big ton white bags,as they say "when the **** hits the fan everyone gets splattered".Big talking point up here now between locals farmers and police. All shooters up here now have to be very very carefull, this is an honest sport up here and needed for pest control,Radio Orkney ran a story this morning all about it and about certain parties waltzing onto land without permission which is as big a crime, its on the brink of going bottoms up if it carries on.Under the Environment Protection Act dumping birds like this carries a fine of up to £40,000 or 6 months inside.Orkneys a beautiful place and accomodation providers welcome shooters at this time of year,so whether its locals or parties "fae sooth" BEHAVE because your under the spotlight. PS give PoleStar a break, he loves these islands like I do. HP.
