Went out lamping last night to get some fresh air more than owt else as havent been out much lately.

1st farm we lamped we never saw a single thing  so I decided to lamp another permission not far away.

First sweep of the ground saw nothing , but as we were leaving I lamped along a banking covered in hawthorns where I have spotted foxes previously and to my delight those ruby eyes glared back. :D

I left the car engine running as me and Ratch climbed a fence and he got settled behind the rifle on the bipod.

Flicked lamp back on and the fox was curled up in a ball with his head rested on his chest , he couldnt even be bothered to lift his head he was that cosy .

The .22/250 spoke and another fine dog fox with a big mane around his neck was taken....

Really happy with this result as foxes are a bit thin on the ground at the minute.........

Im not nocking it as it has to be done but isnt a bit unsporting to shoot it while its asleep?

Ultimately foxing is vermin control so even were it asleep then they still get shot, if you can afford to be choosy then you can probably leave them altogether. We shoot ours hard every year and certainly this year we just don't ever seem to be fox free, that's shooting them for the protection of game birds both ones we put down and a good population of English partridges. In this case sounds like its sheep but the same applies

think you'll always get the two different shooters, those that think its unsporting, and those of us that carry out pest control for a job

next they will be asking, why you didn't give it a kick and make it run,

lol. yes its unsporting.

the correct approach is to offer the fox, one of a pair of duelling pistols, stand back to back and then have your manservant count out 20 paces.

Rather unsporting if you ask me. After all, Charlie doesn't have opposable thumbs.

Maybe if he had 2 shots for every one of yours ?

ok, to all you pest controllers, hunters, and, lets not forget the weekend warriors, for future reference, please when shooting any quarry, stick to the guidelines below

rabbits, place a warning notice up by the warrens 2 days before commencing shoot

pigeons, dress in bright clothing, use no decoys, just stand in middle of field, have someone waving a red flag

pheasant, do not have beaters flushing them in your direction, don't all stand in a line, as that don't give them a hope in hell,
