dazzyboi
One a hunting knife which is sharp, jagged teeth would be good for easy cutting and slicing.
pin
Opinel, people will differ on the number but no 6 is a good choice. Cheap so you won't throw a tantrum if you leave it in a field and will hold a good edge.
kip270
What do you intend to use the knife for, is it just small game? A good knife is a frosts clipper, very sharp and about a tenner is good for small and large game. Opinel are very also, and cheap
king ratcatcher
Opinal, only 6.99 new, id say nomber 6 too, i had a nomber 7 and its was a tiny bit big, or have a look on ebay, i have brought one a few weeks ago, and it only cost me a fiver, just a simple lock knife, done a few bunnys and wood pigeon with it, and its perfect
Pedro
Both Opinel and Frosts. My brother is a bit of a woodsman type and swears by the Frost clipper - dead cheap and holds an edge. I've got an Opinel myself. P.
dazzyboi
Its main use will be for small game (pigeons, rabbits, pheasents) and wildfowl..

njc110381
Why do you want one that is serrated? I know they look good, but they are hard to sharpen when they get blunt and don't actually cut as well as a good plain blade. I've collected knives for years, and have spent between £1 and £300 on them. To be honest, the opinel is a good folder and sharpens to a very high standard (you could shave with it). I also have a knife called a mora, it's a fixed blade, if you google it you should find one. Also holds a good edge. If you want to spend more, get a buck vanguard. Don't get a knife that's too big, as they are hard to control. I have a wilkinson sword survival knife that can hack down 6" round trees, and split a deer in half without any other tools. They cost over £200 if you can get one at all, but it is useless for skinning rabbits!

Hairy Pat
Try a Swebo boning knife, yellow handle has a slightly stiffer blade, great for gutting, blue handle has a flexable blade and is great for breasting pigeons. If any of your mates are butchers they should be able to sort you some old ones. Pat
Baldrick
Got my Opinel No.8 in front of me now, and the No. 6 in my jacket. They're the best choice: cheap, easily sharpened to a superb edge and replaceable. I use a Spyderco knives for sailing and other non-shooting stuff, as they seem fairly rust resistant. M ROBSON
Buck Vanguard are a very good knife too if you want a fixed blade option, ideal for stalking and easier to keep clean than a folding knife. Mark.
Axe
Just to be different i'm going to say Gerber. I use a paraframe which is basically the AR3 with an open frame handle. It stays sharp for ages and is very easy to clean. If you want to have a look at a wide range of knives have a look at Attleborough Accessories here http://www.attacc.com And to save you asking the next obvious question, order yourself a Lanski sharpening system at the same time. leeboy
I've been using a spyderco native for the last 6 years with a part serrated blade. I use it daily at work on the farm and for skinning rabbits etc. It did cost a few quid (about £75) but to my mind it is worth every penny. Comes razor sharp out of the box and keeps its edge well. The serrations are also easy to sharpen and there isnt much it wont cut through easily. very easy one handed opening. leeboy
