njc110381
I've been down to my local shop and played with all the guns this week. I think that the Beretta is my favorite out of the few I liked. I was looking at a Lanber too, but it doesn't feel 'right' if you know what I mean? What do you chaps think of the Beretta? I've looked at all the old posts on the subject, but thought I'd ask anyway just in case anything new has happened with your guns. The one I want is a 28" multi choke game gun, in basic spec. I'd be really grateful of your advice
browningstalker10g
you must never play with guns, lol
Poacher
cant go wrong with the silver pidg, its a good gun,,do you know what grade is it ?? you'll find there are different numbers which indicate different engraving and quality of wood. I'd always go for a Beretta over a Lanber ...
pin
Worth a look is the 686 white onyx, pretty much the same gun but less well appointed. Suits me as I don't like engraving etc. I nearly got a piggy, until I saw the onyx
Cranfield
In my opinion its the best gun in its price range. However, there is nothing wrong with Lanbers.
Mungler
Don't buy a 686 white onyx whatever you do. They are the gun of choice of homosexuals.... so I read on the walls of a public lavatory in Hertfordshire.
njc110381
Now that's a really mean thing to say :yp: I think it's the S version, but I'm not sure. They are selling them for £1040 new, which I thought was quite good. The chap also said that they discount everything I buy when I get the gun (slip, carts, cleaning kit etc) so I'll have to start saving once I know I'm allowed one. Pedro
You can't go wrong with a 686s. It does clays as well as game and is good value for money. I've had a 30 inch multi choke job for nearly 2 years and have put well over a 1000 cartridges through it with no problems whatsoever, (clutching a large piece of 4 X 2 ). I wouldn't hesitate to get another P.
Dunkield
If you are going to be game/rough shooting mainly, the game spec is the best, if you shoot a lot of clays you may find it a bit 'whippy' so that may also be something else to consider. Hairy Pat
Got a Silver pigeon IV Game 30" m/c, it shoots and looks beautiful. With all my previous guns the functionality of the gun was most important aspect of purchasing, but with the silver pigeon just looking at it makes me smile, worth the extra money for the wood and decoration. It is worth shopping around, I shaved £59 off the price of my gun just by making a few phone calls and getting the dealers to undercut . gunner
you can never go wrong if you go for any beretta shotgun most of the models differ on cosmetic styles , lanber is a good gun also but it will never beat a beretta thats for sure...... njc110381
I think I'll aim for the game gun. I will be shooting a lot of clays at first, to get my eye in, but once I can shoot where I'm looking, I'll be using it mainly for rough shooting. I want to be accurate before shooting live quarry, that's the only purpose of the clays. The club I shoot at sells 24g carts, so they don't recoil that hard anyway. Thanks for all the replys, not a negative one yet I noticed
Swanky Doodle Pigeon
A got in touch with a local gunsmith through the Guntrader site that gave me a good deal. Worth checking it out before you buy, as new prices can be more different than you might think.
Whitebridges
SP is a very nice looking gun, all beretta guns look good. For me I've always shot loads better with browning/miroku. I've had all my guns fitted and when it comes to hitting the target these are best for me. In fact in the higher grades they are more than a cosmetic match! Each to their own. njc110381
I handled a couple of Browning guns in the shop too. At a guess I'd say you are quite a big bloke, as they are a bit on the chunky side for me? A lot of shooters have told me that there are Browning people and Beretta people, and if you shoot well with one, you may not like the other. Not sure how true it is? I have quite small hands, and the Browning just didn't feel as comfortable, I couldn't grip the fore end as easily as it was quite wide. Nice looking gun though
16 Bore
Hello Neil, You can't go far wrong with a 68 series. I had a 686 and a 682 before and never had a problem. If they feel 'right' to you then go for it. I'd almost bet that you will buy a cheaper gun afterwards for roughshooting though as you will not want to get the Beretta dirty/wet/scratched !!!! njc110381
I'm not looking forward to the day it gets scratched, but it's a tool that I will buy to use. I've had my S200 air rifle for over a year now, and you could pass it off for a new one. If it does happen to take a knock though, there wont be any tears. That's life! I'm not sure about having two guns, I'd rather get used to one, stick with it until it's dead, then buy another
