unapalomablanca
Right. i have a chance to buy a mint condition ford focus zetec 1.6. Its an 05 plate, 5 doors and has a genuine 28000 on the clock. It has spanking good tyres, spotless all round and is taxed and m.o.t'd till june. Its a customers car who promised me first refusal when she decides to buy a newer one. I asked what she wanted and she coyly said that the ford dealer would "put it up for 4995" which clearly means he wont be offering her that against a newer one. I have to get the right offer in here as if its worse or the same as the dealer i aint gonna get the car. What do you reckon the dealer has offered? She says she is buying a 58 plate focus of similar spec etc, but that might be a porkie. Any knowledgeable help would be appreciated. Regards. una. Davyo
Dealer will not be offering her 4k, Max poss 2,500. As one of the lads said it 8yr old & petrol.I was considering pxing my 2006 fiesta zetec s 1.6 TDI ,60mpg &£30 per yr road tax, nice motor half leather in red very desirable as cheap to run.The best dealer offer was £2800 so I think she is pulling you're leg regarding what the dealer is offering unless she's getting ripped off on the price of the new car Cars are the biggest waste of cash ever,I know we bought new s type 2.7 TDI with our heart & not our head, sold it 3yrs on & lost about £27000. GingerCat
2.5 tops for a car so mint it gives you a hard on, in reality 1500-2000. The dealer will give her maybe 1800 depending on the finance on her new car but doubt it. Have a seriously good condition yaris t sport same reg with a very genuine 40000 on the clock (I've done them all) all the trimmings and no dents scratches etc, its worth 2500, private tops to the right buyer . Dealer offered me 1200 trade in on a 30k car cos of finance. He has a similar but worse condition one for 5k in the window. Having sold cars the mark up on second hand is huge. I'm keeping mine as the missus loves it and its paid for (and its cheap plus goes like a go cart). I would offer 1500 with 1800 top line for a minty fresh example. Does it have full ford service history? Any dents? Scratches? Been suspiciously steam cleaned? How does it drive? Gear box smooth? Any strange noises on full lock or when reving hard? Smoke on start up or idle? Etc etc lots of variables. I would imagine the dealer offered nearer 800 and it would go straight to auction. You can buy an EVO 5 for that money. Can check online re previous owners and hpi.
twitchynik
I sold an immaculate 5 door 2002 2.0 Focus Zetec on 70,000 miles in August last year with all the toys, heated leather, heated screens, full ford history, new pads and discs all round, Conti tyres all round good for at least 10,000 miles and recent service inc timing belt so needed nothing doing for a long time for £1,850. Absolute top money. Agree above - private sale I'd bid £2,000 and another ton or two if you really want it. Plenty Focus's about, it's a buyers market. Chris Bb
The main downside to an 8 year old car with only 28K on the clock, especially when owned by the typical "little old lady", is that it will only have been used for short local runs. Watch out for the gearbox & clutch, possibly also starter motor.
filzee
also parkers is only a guide quite often they don't get there info on cars till 6 months after so it will probably be worth even less. there is a new plate coming out in 6 weeks so prices are set to drop even more. it all depends on the profit margin he has on a trade in.
