Major Misfit
Evening all, just wondering what the ideal conditions are for pigeon shooting. Went out last week thought it was not a bad day but then am not a pigeon( might have the same size Brian!!!) and what conditions should us just scrapped it. Noticed in essex it's light rain tues and wed this week at the mo when am thinking about shooting is it worth it (although still better than working)
TJ91
I go out any weather. Best days I have had have been when we have short but heavy downpours...the birds swarmed out in the dry spells. Depends what type of shooting you are doing aswel. I like flightlines and roost shooting, strong wind on a dry day do for me. They have to feed regardless of weather.
sitsinhedges
Best dull and windy Worst bright and still, esp if the sun is in your eyes too. Always the exception though.

Blackpowder
Seed time bright and dry for me, as long as the sun is not in your eyes. Roost shooting a steady west wind of around 20mph. Blackpowder
lakeside1000
I like it just windy enough to move the floaters but not so much that I spend the day running all over the field retrieving the plactic shell decoys, Edited January 28, 2013 by lakeside1000
humperdingle
Bit of a constant breeze and overcast... That seems to bring the best results for me on average.
BADFEET
No crops in on the farm I shoot but they roost in a big wood where there no shooting, they then take a couple of very definite lines across my ground to the rape and berrys on another farm further along......the decoying has been hard but a few come in close enough for a look while zipping across to the other farm. They are going like the clappers most of the time and its real testing shooting but needs must, I just try not to count the cartridges ! Yesterday was clear but a good stiff breeze and was under the line they take back to the wood. Hot, clear and still I have always found to be rubbish Edited January 28, 2013 by BADFEET
motty
I much prefer shooting in just a slight breeze than a good wind. I can't think of any day where a good wind has been much of an advantage to my shooting.
TIGHTCHOKE
I like it just windy enough to move the floaters but not so much that I spend the day running all over the field retrieving the plactic shell decoys, So what do you mount your shell decoys on that they can blow all over the field? motty
So what do you mount your shell decoys on that they can blow all over the field? I sometimes have the same problem. I Just put my shells straight on the ground, usually. I don't think there's much point in using spring sticks and the like.
