leeds chimp
Just picked up a nice 6x4 shed to keep my home brew wine and beer in.... What is the best way to insulate it so it does not get too cold in the winter or too hot in the summer ?or is both asking too much??
bobt
insulation works both ways hot and cold, cheapest is to line it with polystyrene sheet.
foggy011983
Best way i can think is to get the loft insulation rolls that are cased in a sort of plastic bag. Easy to clean and stops the fibres getting everywhere. Then if your not worried about looks just fix it to your roof and sides. another thing you can buy are rigid insulation sheets. Just screw them to the inside of the shed and fill any gaps with expanding foam. Steve
bullet1747
us to wire concrete garages one guy bought sheet form insulation then ply wood on top worked a treat and screw any shelves to it as well
washerboy
I did my dog pens with polystyrene sheets covered in hardboard
chady
Make sure it's water tight if not the insulation will rot over time. If any concerns put Dom them insulating boards then ply board of some description and if done right will look really good Jamie

Fuji Shooter
I insulated our 8x6 shed for the rabbits with Celotex. Super stuff just glued it in place and covered with ply. Had a load spare so also did the Guinea pig hutches too.

kent
Kingspan or similar applied to the inside then get the foam gun on all the joints and overboard it. Now remember that you can also insulate in the cold so a little low level heat is the only way in the colder months

pegleg31
However you insulate it try and leave a air gap between the insulation and the exterior, and then if you overboard it use a barrier such as polythene/dpm Pegleg

I am not DIY minded at all hence why a member on here who helped me out today with his hard work, dedication, blood, sweat and tears to build it will be rewarded in the after life....and said would take him out a few times
pegleg31
Yeah plastic sheeting Don't ask me why but if i do a warm roof system (celotex insulation) building control make me leave a air gap and then when you board it with plasterboard you either have to use foil back boards or nail pasltic sheeting over to act as a barrier Plus if it's a shed i wouldn't use loft insulation as most shed aren't water tight Edited February 20, 2013 by pegleg31
bucksshooter
Use celetex mate its not the cheapest insulation but has double the insulation properties as anything else ie 2inches of celetex has the same insulation values as 4 inches of loft insulation. A thin layer of ply on that and your sorted.
subsonicnat
I lined my shed with the stuff you put on the roof Tar Felt. Works a treat:
DAVE_B
No question, cleanest and easiest and most efficient would be using sheets of Kingspan or Celetex. slightly more expensive but worth the difference. these forms of insulation are x2 the value of fibre rolls of Roof insulation (e.g. 50mm of Celetex = 100mm Fibre). another point to think of is that simply taking a 200mm thick roll of fibre and then squishing it down to 50mm is basically the same as fitting 50mm fibre, I.e. it's the air that is trapped in it that makes it work. P~MX
get some Kingspan insulation for it that'll keep it warm and it's easily worked
four-wheel-drive
I have a metal 8'x6' shed the problem that I had was condensation dripping water on to everything in the end I put in a false sealing and that seemed to stop it I always planned to put 2" polystyrene sheet all around but never got around to it.
