il cacciatore
Remember remember the fifth of November Gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason why gunpowder, treason Should ever be forgot... Except until now. In this health and Safety culture there is increasing demands from Joe Public that fireworks should be banned or their sales severely restricted as to allow only public fireworks displays. I suppose many of you have been putting up with exploding fireworks for months and for the big day itself we can expect television adverts reminding us of the graphic detail of people misusing fireworks including maimed and scared household pets. Countries like Australia have banned them so why shouldn't we? Whats the consensus?

Graham M
Yup! let's ban them........let's ban everything that WE don't like. Let’s ban them on the grounds of public safety….Let’s ban them because it could save a life…….. Strange.........that sounds a little familiar……..now where have I heard something like that before. henry d
Fireworks are brilliant and I love them, even though it increases my work load about 400% When did we and why did we become the generation that thought if it`s perceived bad you have to ban it
Lord Geordie
Public Safety? Ban? ok lets ban Cars / motorcycles / vans / buses / skipping / football / rugby as we can get hurt while using vehicles climbing into vehicles or playing sport or even alcohol as it makes you so drunk you fall of slap someone in the chops and end up sending THEM to the infirmary We could use the HSE for a ban on Muslim terrorists while were at it THEY are dangerous I think there should be tighter control on the fireworks that JUST go bang as they seem to be the ones the kids like to buy to annoy other people. Small garden display fireworks seem to be the only ones NOT targeted by numpties (exc high balls which they fire at each other ) I think in all fairness people have a right to buy fireworks if they wish so a BAN? Hell no just tight sales OR banning the mortars and air bombs LG
darebear
i for one, LOVE fireworks. however to be fair.... most of the ones the public buy are utter tosh. you have to go to somewhere like costco and spend £50 on lighting one taper and watching 300 fireworks in the sky in 2 minutes. i'm more a fan of organised displays. safer, and bloody brilliant to watch. i CANNOT WAIT for sunday. i'm driving to sheffield to see stone sour (pssst scaffy, corey will be singing just to meeeeeeeeeee ) play, and am looking forward to the dark nights coz it means we'll get to see fireworks going off all over. hmmmm, unless of course it bloody rains and its cloudy. Booo hooo my heart bleeds NOT
Cranfield
I don't think fireworks should be banned, but I do think the laws on who can buy them and when and where they can be discharged, should be enforced. Where my MIL lives, she has loud bangers going off from early October, all evening and well after midnight. Most of the trouble is caused by people well under the age of 18 (the legal age to buy fireworks). As has been said, to get a full appreciation of fireworks, you do need to go to an organised display. £50's worth in the back garden would be over in 2 minutes. Axe
Some will agree some won't, unfortunately its the badly behaved kids that are causing these quetions to be raised. Mind you, half the adults are just as bad. I'll leave it to you to decide, but again it comes down to being able to police it correctly. I for one much prefer an organised display, its cheaper safer and much more impressive. So would it bother me if they were severely licensed....NO!
