Elk hunter
Five years @ £40 a year it's not that bad if we all got the same service as Leicester police fire arms give, quick and efficient. Otherwise a lot of guys won't be happy paying it. Andrew
T-Bolt94
I know in NI there are proposals for some serious changes with ours going up to £120. Not sure at what stage they are at with this but I do know it is facing some serious opposition.

HDAV
been touted for a while, £200 cost is way out of step.... https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check £26 for a CRB/DBS https://www.gov.uk/passport-fees £72.50 for a passport ........ https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/vetting_costs#outgoing-77406 SC security clearance is from £49! Muddy Funker
Percentage wise it would be a hefty increase but if it happens come on, £200 over 5 years. Hardly going to be a huge problem surely?
huffhuff
Obviously at that price, you'd expect a slightly faster turn around from some of the constabularies (plus reinstating visits on renewal if you don't have them anymore). We're lucky in Herts, it's always prompt and a good service. But you do hear some horror stories from up and down the country...
ant1
some of my shooting friends would struggle to find £200 in one go.do you think they would do monthly payment

Richard V
These proposals came from ACPO, they feel that £50 for grant of a SGC doesn't reflect the full cost of processing the application, and the service is effectively subsedised by the public, however the reason why the fees are subsedised by the public is because apparantly firearm registration benefits the public as a whole. bornfree
If its £200 I hope the service is faster.6 months for a 1 to 1 variation is a joke. Bornfree
team tractor
It's took me 5 weeks for Staffordshire fac and its in post . Feo said to me £50 for 5 years is a bargain but was no mention of increase . Apparently its 2 weeks for 1 to 1 variation

Dominicrobed
I would be more than happy to pay £200 if it ment it takes less than the 16 weeks my last one took !! If they said it is £200 and it takes 2 weeks to come or a week like my driving licence update then bring it on
mossy835
yes i would pay that,.for sport i love doing.
deputy dog
I think i'l give it up if it hits the £200 mark. I see it as another sort of taxation for a minorities pleasure and to be honest can you see the service being any better, IMHO i cant. Been nearly 3 months now with Gwent Police for a 1 for 1 variation an SGC renewal. Gone from good to abismal service in 5yrs. Nope sorry lads i do not support this price increase even if it is just rumours. DD
HDAV
Interesting idea http://www.south-wales.police.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Response-123_13.pdf Total cost for the year 2011/12 (exc heating lightine etc) £197,814.86 Total applications received 176 FAC 378 SGC = 554 Total renewals received 496 FAC 1872 SGC = 2368 Total = 2922 £197,814.86 / 2922 = £67.69 to process each application It doesn't state how many were co terminus but if we go for revenue excluding co terms £50 grant and £40 renewals (excluding the fees for variations to fAC should balance up the reduced co term fees) Grants revenue = £27,700 Renewal revenue = £94,720 Total revenue = £122,420 So £70k ish short fall for the year. If fees were Grant £90 Renewal £75 (a big increase on current fees) Grants £49860 Renewals £177,600 Total £227,460 For a surplus of nearly £30k I would be happy at these revised fees as long as grants went from receipt of forms to interview in 28 days and decision in another 14 maximum. Renewals were completed within 28 days of receipt of paperwork and variations/land checks within 14 days. Also i think over 75's should get free renewals Edited March 24, 2013 by HDAV
JonathanL
IF only that was nationwide...... It's more like two days for a variation in Northumbhria. The way it should be! J.
