Looking a decent air rifle on a low budget

Good evening,

Hopefully someone can help me. I have a FAC and have a few different calibres however, I am looking for a nice air rifle with scope and mounts for a fairly reasonable price probably 100£ +/-. Are there any that people could recommend or suggest I stay away from. Would definitely consider a good second hand or new rifle.

Thanks

To be brutally honest you won't get anything "decent" for £100 unless you find a bargain!

However you could find a BSA lighting per owned for £150 + there a very good air rifle for the money!

Bah at you and your rubbish advice, there are plenty of perfectly good air-rifles for hunting at <£100.

For that price range I'd be looking at getting a second hand SMK x19 with a scope and perhaps a moderator included. They where about £90 new a year or so back back I don't know now.

My best advice at this point in time is to have a look about, if you see a rifle you like the look of, ask here and we'll tell you if it's worth your money or not.

Yes, spring or I may consider a CO2 capsule but most likely a Spring. I am not restricted to the 12ft lb deal as all Air Rifles have to be licensed here anyway. I was looking at the Hatsan Stricker it is a touch above my budget but could be considered,

I disagree that there are plenty good "hunting" rifles for sub £100 but then that's my opinion!

You genuinely would be better off saving a few more £££ and buying a second hand air gun, like my previous recommendation.

What do you think people use to hunt with before £450 PCP's?, BSA Mercury, comets, (etc etc) have accounted of millions of bunnies.

I honestly think people are starting to become spoilt when it comes to air-rifles. they just line up the cross-hairs and press a button. Anything that requires a bit of practice to use and all of a sudden it's not "decent".

I use a springer and always will, You become very disconnected using a pcp, I feel!

All I'm saying is I've been through most of the cheap ones and there just not up to the mark if you ask me, I speak from experience not just assumptions that it's cheap so it's no good!

I'm trying to give a valid input into this chaps question, he will get to see all sides and this is what forums are all about!

:good:

Have a look on www.gunstar.co.uk there`s loads of Air Rifles on there.

Being in Northern Ireland and Air Rifles being licensed you could up the power on some of these.

Hatsan 1000s Striker very good Rifle and close to the 12 ftlb mark. FAC spring up to 20 ftlb.

Hatsan 55 and 60 very good value for money. Can be taken to 16 ftlb.

Hatsan 105 under lever fixed barrel makes them more accurate there was one on gunstar for £70 a week ago.

Cometa 300 and 400 very good full power Rifles for little money. FAC spring can go to 22 ftlb.

BSA Mercury. lighting. superstar.

SMK tend to be low on power.

CO2 Rifles are affected badly by the weather (ie) down on power when it`s cold. changing ( POI ).

At FAC levels look for a used HW80 in .22 , they sold in large volumes and they are now harder to sell against buddy bottle fed guns over 12 ft lb energy levels. You might struggle to find one s/h unless you buy it on mainland UK. Don't buy a webley patriot under any circumstances they are horrible to shoot until the power is reduced - a lot!
