Vermincinerator
I decided to give my 257 AI an airing so headed off to a friends farm to see if i could connect with a long crow or two, my lad set up the camera and we got this: Ian. moor man
Sweet shot! Your lads a lucky boy Any tips for a long range scope? I hope to try some long range stuff soon. Thanks for posting, Jon.
Alycidon
Reliable repeatable turrets, decent mag range, long range ret which will be fine, either a dot or a fine cross. Illuminated helps its use in low light. Nightforce NSX is good, I think Vermincinerator has a Sightron on that rifle but might be wrong. Vermincinerator
It's such a shame the others flew off. About half an hour later, a couple of his mates swooped down to have a look at their dead buddy, crowing and squaking like mad, i redialled for 475yds, and sent another bullet down nailing the crow nearest the original dead one, i then levelled the retical on the second crow who had not flown off! I was just about to squeeze the trigger when the freshly shot crow got up and flew away taking his mate with him! Ian.
wildfowler.250
Wind was 2.4mph from 8 oclock needed -1.25 moa. Ian. Hi Ian, Do you work this out via a ballistic calculator and then just adjust your scope? I'm assuming you need a ballistic turret for this rather than just altering your elevation like you would when your normally zeroing? Im still using hold over and aim to the left a bit theory Edited April 10, 2013 by wildfowler.

Vermincinerator
Hi Ian, Do you work this out via a ballistic calculator and then just adjust your scope? I'm assuming you need a ballistic turret for this rather than just altering your elevation like you would when your normally zeroing? Im still using hold over and aim to the left a bit theory Hi wildfowler, my scope is a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 with standard 1/4" click turrets I use Exbal ballistic claculator on a PDA cross referenced with Strelok on my phone, the range is entered together with the wind speed and direction then Exbal works out the drops and windage for you in MOA, just times the MOA by 4 and you have the click values. Accurate chronographing of your load, precise range finding and wind metreing together with careful input of relevant data into the ballistic calculator such as height above see level, temp, baromatric pressure, incline to the target etc...... all lead to putting the bullet where you want it to go. wildfowler.250
Thanks Ian, very helpful reply If you don't mind me asking, how do you find details for,"height above see level, temp, baromatric pressure, incline to the target" under field conditions? Or do you know most of the values before you go out and it's a case of them being,"close enough"? Thanks!

No problem wildfowler mate, i get height and incline from OS map of the area i want to shoot(OS Get-a-map), barometric pressure from weather forecast for the area, then enter this into the ballistic program before setting off, i take wind speed readings and temp from wind speed metre at the shooting spot.
