brett1985
i love coming back and reading this thread... it makes me chuckle. i think it all boils down to buying the best you can AFFORD with the money you have. there are guns for every budget available on the market so why not have a look around. IMHO it doesnt matter what make a gun is or how much its worth, if its safe and you can shoot with it then happy days... i love the fact that i own a berreta, but if i hadnt got that at such a cheap price i was going to order a revo matrix or hatsan. it wouldnt have bothered me what i had, as long as it worked. markm
Agreed with the 2 posts. I have a miroku grade 5 MK70 all the way down to the revo for my son. I would wince at cutting down a new B725 but don't give a hoot on cutting down a. £400 gun to fit my son, when he's finished, if it's still working (lol) I will stick the bit of wood back on the butt and use it as a rough muck around, or flog it on getting a hit, the gun seeing my son shoot makes up for that 100x

OvEr_KiLL
for the price of the revo i would rather have a used lanber or bettinsoli!
HDAV
Now here is a bargain http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/245465-beretta-686-silver-pigeon-12-gauge/
PhilR
I'd spotted that it's a 687, got one in my cabinet. It was about £750 new 25 or so years ago, better built than the current crop of Silver Pigeon range and a good buy at the price advertised if it's in good nick. al4x
that does look a very good buy as a starter gun that will last as long as you want to shoot, the thing with these guns that are £400 or so new if you knock off the VAT you come down to £330 then you have a dealers profit margin, a wholesalers profit margin and then a manufacturer has to make them. With that in mind you aren't going to get a gun that is well made and last a lifetime whereas some of the better second hand buys will and they won't loose value unless you really trash them. Yes it only has to go bang and lots is about where you point it but there is nothing more frustrating than a gun packing up in the middle of a good day. cjm
There is a price for selling and a price for buying! the true price is the compromise in the middle. Always ask your self what you would pay for it , and there is your guide. This man speaks sense.
ChrisAsh
Another way to look at it is That if a turk can make the gun for a couple of hundred quid he must be using the latest CNC machining tools to be able to keep down costs and using the latest equipment should have good accuracy on manufacture and spend very little on advertising Now to justify the large gun makers prices, Low end guns from the more famouse makes do not have significatly better wood so take that out of the equasion, Probably made to same standards using CNC equipment, little difference, Design costs so little to design little difference, Advertising massive difference, Making guns at every £500 price range from £1300 upwards, massive stock holding and costs to them Why worry about resale value of a few hundred quid over the years when you probably loose ten times that over the same timescale with you car As I said just plying devils advocate, but never seen much difference in sub £1800 guns apart from the woodwork that does look a very good buy as a starter gun that will last as long as you want to shoot, the thing with these guns that are £400 or so new if you knock off the VAT you come down to £330 then you have a dealers profit margin, a wholesalers profit margin and then a manufacturer has to make them. Like many people on Pigeon Watch I have been shooting for a number of years using all makes and types of gun, cheap as well as expensive, I have never had a gun pack up on me, just how common is it? Often we here about resale value/depreciation, do we really buy guns thinking about how much we will get when we sell them? I currently have 12 differing manufacturers in my gun safe, including those with fantastic depreciation potential and those with a terrible depreciation potential; according to our "PW Pundits" Edited April 19, 2013 by bakerboy

magpie148
Would you recommend it as a good starting gun ? Would you recommend it as a good starting gun ? its my first gun and it does the job, it has been passed around on a few clay shoots for mates to try and they are of the opinion you pay as much as you can for a gun as you get what you pay for but even they have been suprised by it. I know when I go shooting its a good gun(so far).and I don't have to worry about keeping it clean. If I can go on a days shoot and have just as much sport with my £500 REVO then what does it matter what the next guys shooting with.

GingerCat
For 500 have you considered a second hand lanber? Plenty about, good guns and you will have change for carts.

Dave-UK
As many forum members know, my wife and I bought 2 Beretta 686e evo's recently. We absolutely love them. Then we decided to buy a third gun, for my step son, who's in the army, and for my brother in law, for when they visit. I'd read so reviews and decided to buy a Revo Onyx, as its new it has a warrantee. We picked the Revo up today and went shooting, I thought it was a great gun for the money, it did the same as my evo, hit clays. While we were walking around the grounds, we meet 4 gentlemen who were also shooting, they wondered what the other gun i was carrying in the slip, i told them what it was and price, they all had a go, they were also impressed with it.. If you get the chance, try one
