tjm160
What choke do members use for decoying? I'm presently on the default 1/4 + 1/2 for my B525 (used successfully for clays) and my first outing the other day resulted in a very uncomfortable number of 'winged' birds with 7 1/2 shot. OK, I need to switch over to 5 or 6-shot for rough shooting, but should I also look to tighten the choke a little (e.g. to say 1/2 and 3/4 or even 1/2 and full)? Mr Rizzini
1/4 and 1/2, no 6 for rough shooting and 7.5 for pigeons up to 30 yards. perhaps your not giving the birds enough lead as this use to be a problem of mine and I was hitting tails instead of heads. goodluck mate

The Croc
"Choke is a solution to a problem most most of us don't have" Bill Harriman BASC Personally I have hit more with open chokes, (skeet and 1/4) whilst decoying, but then again Im not a good shot so anything that helps is good, and open chokes works for me

Steveco36
No expert but 1/4's in both barrels for rough and clay, does the job for me ok ( 6's for the pigeons & 7.5's for clays)

Salop Matt
I shoot all my clays and game/rough with 1/2 choke in my pump or semi ! I would move to a size 6 cartridge !
tjm160
Thanks again gents, I'm going to stick with the present choke config for now (not least to save changing between clays and rough shooting) and just move to 6-shot in the top barrel. I use Hull Super Fast Fibre 27g 7 1/2 shot for clays. Are these generally also ok for pigeons over decoys (for the bottom barrel - 1/4 choke) or would it be better to upgrade the load to ~30g+, as well as moving to 6-shot in the top barrel (1/2 choke)? ditchman
open and 1/4.......the whole point of decoying is to get em close enuff to shoot em 25-35 yds..then it dosnt matter what cartridge you use or what lenght barrells you have...if you have too tight a choke and close shooting you mash em up........... delburt0
Try The the hull superfast 30g 6s there 4.75,a box do the job well , but they are a dirty shell as you will no, the barells will need a good clean after using them Edited April 15, 2013 by delburt0
tjm160
Thanks delburt, as I'm already using the Hull 27g 7 1/2's, I think I'd prefer to try the 30g 6's before any others, particularly if sub £5 a box I take it they will kick a bit more than the 27g?
