Warning Heeded Nick, I will not shoot without glasses!!. I took mine off for a bit last Dove season (hot day--fogged up) and was rewarded with a bit of burning powder flipped out of a casing from the autoloader, felt like my eye was on fire. Good practice when shooting around other shooters as shot can ricochet off a target and shooters can shoot at low birds.

Because of this thread I have now bought some shooting glasses as I have a real thing about anything going near my eyes, I really don't think I could handle someone popping a cyst with a needle.

I bought a set of Top Gun Elite glasses, rather than being interchangeable lenses there are a proper full set of adjustable glasses in all the colours you normally get.

I had a small cyst on my eyelid , they clamped my eyelids open with some horror story style spreading device so I couldn't close them , i coped ok with the scalpel coming towards me to remove the cyst it was the soldering iron that followed to cauterise the wound that made me cack myself , the smell of burning flesh was horrendous and I went back into the waiting room looking like I had done a few rounds with mike Tyson!

Any bite marks??????

Hope it all gets sorted out for you matey !!

I once had to be rushed to Bristol eye hospital ( Cement splash type thingy ), when I walked in, I saw a Fireman in the waiting room with one black eye.

I don't mean black eye..........I mean a totally black eye ball.....like a black snooker ball. Anyway, I got the cement washed out of my sore peeper and was free to go. But I just had to find out the cause of this shiny black eye.

So I asked him, " here mate, what happened to your eye?".....................he just inhaled.........then exhaled and said " Shuttle Cock !! " .

I don't know why but I burst out laughing !!!! He was not amused. But he was built like Geoff Capes so I made off sharpish !!!!

Because i shoot a right handed percussion lock left handed, I am in fear that a bit of copper cap will blow off into my left eye. Since that's my good eye its not something I'm willing to risk. Long story short i bought some glasses for three quid of amazon, thought they were just clear glasses, but in fact they came with about 5 different colored lenses, which i thought was a pretty good deal.

Think I'd better get some glasses :whistling:

Was shooting clays that were coming towards me I hit one bang on and turned it to dust ,(I looked away with my eyes closed so the bits didn't hit me in the face) lined up for the next one and suddenly had a stinging in my eye and scratching when I blinked.

Finished off my round and went home to examine my eye which was still scratching couldn't see anything so off to casualty.

Had all the drops and examination and had my upper eyelid folded inside out and swabbed with a cotton bud that revealed a tiny black fragment,

after that the scratchy feeling went, time for safety glasses :cool1:

If this spurs people on to buy eye protection you could do a lot worse than these:

They are appearing on eBay as unused surplus for about £25. I think they retail new at £65. They have been instrumental in reducing blast injuries leading to sight loss in Afghanistan and are issued to all UK, Danish and most US troops. The manufacturers reckon they'll defeat a shotgun at 5m!

I always try and wear glasses on clays as I've been hit by clay fragments on several occasions and I'm really squeamish about eye surgery. Good luck and I hope it's sorted soon.
