As above - if the gun fits you then it should shoot in the right place every time.

I use an O/U and a semi. I find that both shoot very much the same. If you find that the semi isn't shooting straight then it may be a bad fit or because it is a semi you are doing something differently.

Get someone to check your gun mount, head on stock etc to make sure you are getting the same sight picture on both.

I currently use my semi for both pigeons/crows and clays so that I shoot the same gun. If you are new to shooting then maybe stick to one for now but also try to solve why one shoots better than the other.

Some semi`s shoot flat, and i think the o/u is set 60% of the pattern high , but the pattern plate should get your sight picture right.

That may be correct, but that shouldn't be a reason for anyone to miss with either gun.

you may find that the semi is a bit shorter in the stock than the O/U which can cause you to miss. Compare the length of pull, the distance from the end of the stock to the trigger, and get a stock pad if it is shorter.

The clue is in your question!

As an inexperienced shot, stick to one gun, when you have learned to shoot well with that, you can start to learn how to shoot the other one!

I think this is some of the best advise anyone can give you. Build your confidence with a gun that fits and you are comfortable with.

tightchoke and moorsman have both hit the nail on the head,,use one gun till your confident then and only then are you best trying the other, but to be honest go and enjoy yourself on the clays first and once you have mastered the art of mounting properly then go out and smack some pigeons

When I was having some coaching and looking at a new gun I was told that auto's tend to shoot a little higher than the trad o/u or s/s even if fitted correctly.

Not sure how true this is as I went for a o/u.

My SA shoots slightly low :)

I shoot with one eye closed because I have an eye dominance issue. Am right handed but shoot left handed due to left eye dominance. However my son who was taught to shoot by the same coach was soon taught to shoot with both eyes open and his shooting went on in leaps and bounds. I would suggest speaking to a coach if you are changing something as fundamental as this as I understand it changes you lead pictures very significantly.

Best of luck.
