Tips on baiting an area for a sneaky fox please...

OK, it doesn`t like to poke it`s head out when using a foxpro and last night it sneaked around the back of the highseat and I couldn`t get on it quietly and quickly, so it made it to the fence/ditch.

The area is open pasture with a few trees bushes out in the open and my highseat back is towards a stand of tall pines well spaced of roughly 2-3 acres and behind that is a young-ish plantation.

Area has BOP and cottage with dog (600m away) in the area so no stink pit/midden. Fox is likely to come from behind and left of me.

So do I go for a trail of bloody and minced liver to the area for baiting?

Big chunks to start with then small stuff later when I intend to shoot (about a weeks time)?

Other devious ideas welcome :good:

stinky cat food spread round the shooting area tip half out of the tin and leave half in it but tie it to a fence post or the likes so it doesn't get carried away, and keep feeding once the bait is going. Ideally use a trail cam so you know when its appearing and that it is your fox few days later sit there and shoot it. With the prep work right you can often be done in half an hour

Cheers guys, all good stuff, keep em coming.

There are also ravens very active in the area too, will the bait tin need covering?

**Forgot to say - Was still just dusk at 1am this morning...another week and the nights will be drawing in again

1 meter of 4" soil pipe with 1" holes drilled in it, capped off at both ends with good rope around it and secure at one end .

Fill with rabbit , pigeon, dog food and so on keeps them in the area for a while and even if the flesh get fly infested they stay around eating the maggots simple's :good:

iv been told mackerel works brilliantly! worth a try!

I have some ready to go out this afternoon :good:

i use the pouches of stinky fishy cat food

they are 19p from tesco. one pouch goes a long way and you dont end up with half a tin under your drivers seat for 3 weeks!

Too nasty for words

A smelly dead cat or ferret works well, but fish buried under a dusting of soil has served me well, as for ravens anything big enough ie a rabbit or pigeon carcass peg it down with a bit of bent wire the ravens can't move or carry it, and if its pegged and foxy comes in he has to stand and eat it giving you plenty time for a shot and eliminating a chance of him lifting it and legging it ATB let us know how you get on :)

tin of fish in oil.

pop a hole in the side of the tin. then nail the whole tin to a pot. lets the fishy oil drip down the post, lasts a very long time and unless the fox carries a can opener then it will drip for weeks, gets better in time and fox starts digging at bottom of post.
