Rab Noolas
Does anyone have long term experience of using 21 gm low recoil cartridges for clays? My instructor has recommended Comp X, especially when shooting 100+ cartridges per day, but friend suggest that I should go for a 24 gm load or stick with the 28 gm that I have been using for ages. Any thoughts?
Cambsman
Nothing wrong with 21g for clays. My lad used them for ages and I have used lots too. Point the stick in the right place and pull the trigger! Job done. Easy on the wallet and the shoulder.
Iggy
Nothing at all wrong with 21g shells for clays, and the Hull CompX are about the best out there in my experience. Shoot exactly as you would with 28g shells and as the previous poster says, if you point the gun the right place the clay will break. What I alike about 21 and 24g shells is how much quicker it 'feels' like you get onto the second bird. Best thing is to give them a try and not think about them being any different from your normal shell, chances are your results will be no different either. Iggy. Glenshooter
I got the Green Pad from Recoil Systems for my lad who's a stick thin 19 yr old - from recommendations on here and fitted it on Fri. He shot 3 competitions at the weekend ie >300 27g SuperFast cartridges and thinks the Browning now recoils like an air rifle! I find it hard to believe but he thinks the pad is fantastic. (14mm is the size he's got.)
Guest cookoff013
use 24g #9s, i`ve been having some great success. if you are after totally reduced recoil. go for chevron low noise / recoil or subsonics.
shaun4860
I use 21g Comp X all the time They also do 24g and 28g in Comp X If recoil is an issue then I dont think you can go past the Comp X range As said, don't think of them as anything different just shoot as you would normally, oh and enjoy

I can't comment as I havn't tried the subsonics, The 21g comp x still give quite good performance as well as being a very soft recoiling cartridge Would be interesting to see performance figures for the subsonics I have noticed though, that they seem to have stopped the 24g range for some reason? Its what you're happy with at the end of the day I have tried 21g eley first and find them quite punchy Edited June 18, 2013 by shaun4860

Rab Noolas
Thank you very much. I will try the 28 gm subsonic and the Comp X 21 gm. I have a Silver Pigeon Deluxe which comes with a stupid pad on it. I think I will have that replaced too. Meanwhile than you all for the advice. Dekers
First off low recoil have always presented a problem in semis, even heavier than 21gm. As for general Clay work I tend to use 24/28 but commonly for skeet or introducing girls/ladies to the sport I may well use a 21. Don't think I have ever actually used a specifically designated Low Recoil 21.
Underdog
I used some of the 21g compx on pigeon last year. Fast and worked fine on fast pigeon. Distinct low recoil from a sxs. U.
sandspider
I use 28g fibre wad Comp X for my clay shooting. Haven't found another cartridge with as low recoil. Tried some 24g Comp X (back when they made them) and didn't notice much difference, and I've never tried 21g. But Comp X all the way.
