Hodmedod.one
They don't look like they have scope rails? Jesus, what do you want for £99?:(???
Teal
It's just I would do it the other way around- lamp and then use NV. Using a spotting scope like that will take a long time if you have much permission.
pin
Well, having got the £99 offering from lidl and the one Costco have, the lidl item wins hands down. The Costco one is a Newton unit, it is smaller and lighter, but only has a 30mm objective lens, its IR illumination isn't as powerful either. The lidl (Bresser) unit feels more solid, it certainly has a much improved light gathering qualities from its 50mm lens. It is easier to use, the two buttons on it are easily operated by one hand whilst carrying it, which you can't do at all with the Newton. They both have rubbish lens caps, the better bresser unit's cap is screw on which is useless. I am sure I will find a replacement push fit for pennies, though. Tested out in the field on the way home the quality of the bresser showed through. Much less distorted at the edges, much clearer picture with less artefacts and clearly just gathering and amplifying more light. The IR on the bresser still isn't up to much, a separate 100+mw device would make it more useful, but you can't have everything for £99. The final nail in the coffin for the newton is the battery it takes (CR123) which cost about £7 each, the Bresser takes AA cells Still problems with the bresser though. In the lidl advert it lists 3x optics, which they are not. It also lists the fact that it will shut off in conditions which are too bright, which it doesn't. So with a correctly worded letter I might even get it for a bit less :( Anyone else with the lidl one, can you confirm yours is the same spec? Poacher
Keep the reports coming lads i'm getting seriously tempted....
pin
On the way home parked up and walked to a farm gate (I have permission, before you all start) and walked in the field. With the Newton I couldn't see much, the bresser I could Two rabbits, sat not 25 feet from me completely unaware I was there. The newton's IR is so useless it wasn't picking out their eyes. Put the bresser on at there they were. Rabbits need verification from a few senses before they will do one, these couldn't see or smell me, but could hear me, so they stayed put. Cracking, poacher, just get your wallet out man, well worth 5 score. What's that work out at, a reasonable evening in a pub? :(
benelli 1
Anyone else tryed out there bins? I bought a set for a tenner. What can i say, fantastic for the money. Where else could you buy gear like that for the money they charge. I liked em so much i went back an bought anouther 6 sets to sell :( . Alot of people knock em Cos there cheap, and for that reason they think they sell c#@p. But i think they are really good value for money, theres something different on the shelfs all the time and you can fill your trolley for peanuts. God bless Lidl
tabs
Just got one myself, tried it briefly in the back garden. Very pleased with the value for money. Will be very useful on part of my shoot where the horses get twitchy of the lamp going on and off. Luton store have 6 left if anyone is struggling to find any. stubby
took the plunge and put mself in a bit more debt :( aint plastic great although not have any permission for night shoots YET, I felt it was worth £99 by the replies from others and would rather get it now, than wait and not get one in time so just trying it in the garden and Im well impressed looking out with the naked eye vison to about half way, flick the unit on and I can see the ferts at bottom of garden, flick the IR on and its like standing there with a torch, yet as others have said, the rabbits/rats wont see you
il cacciatore
Just bought one just now. Going to go and try it out later on. 5 year warranty is good. They must be confident of the product. Just need to keep the receipt.

pin
Buy a 100mw or better IR illuminator / torch from maplin and they would be even better. I might even have a look at opening it up and see if I can replace the IR with something a bit stronger and a brightness control
crocket
Hi all Thanks for all the advice, it seems that they are good value for a ton. Can't have mine til Christmas the wifes sent it to Santa. All the best for Christmas and the New Year. Crocket
Dave-G
If anyone struggles to get one... similar items and prices here: My Webpage I asked the missus to nip into leicester Lidl this morning. None on display but stubbornly asking someone else a few times produced one from the back room. They keep flying out of stock. It's awaiting my leisure this evening

Ferretboy111
Went out with mine last night with a mate and his 12b, i was the spotter he was the shooter. Shot 2 rabbits out of 3 used the nightvision to spot them a lamp to shoot, the only trouble ive found is that the bunnies seem alot further away than they actually are so on 3 bunnies last nite which i thought were out of range they actually werent. Still a great bit of kit for £99 i agree that a higher IR would be better, i spotted a rabbit clearly at around 70yrds with it last night, this night vision combined with a rimfire of some sort and shooting bunnies would be made easy! 30-6
I joined the gang and been out to buy one. Haven't tried it yet. Whoever started this topic (Crocket I think), should print this thread out and send it to LIDL head office, could be a years free groceries for him. One thing I would like to know is having never used NV, if I am viewing next to a road with street lights would the lighting enhance the picture, or are they only supposed to be used in relative darkness, ie starlight?
Ferretboy111
Yeh any other light emmissions improve the quality and distance of the viewing, last night with just the NV on i couldnt really see anything but put the IR on or have low beam on the car and it improves it massively. Dont point it straight at the light source though otherwise it could ****** it up, even a light miles away shines extremely bright. pin
Just found this http://gallery.bcentral.com/GID4963445P495...lluminator.aspx Converts a mini maglight into an IR illuminator, $24.
webber
Just been on both Lidl and the other website. I'm no expert, but the Lidl one looks like a higher spec than the other and would probably adapt to a scope easier. I'm off to Lidl tomorrow. webber
pin
For anyone wanting the exact model / spec http://www.meade.de/index.php?id=74&L=...000&sact=td The website for the manufacturer is www.bresser.de - it was hacked and defaced recently and wasn't working, they seem to have it back now. They are selling them on there for 379 euros!
pin
Found a site selling 10cm x 10cm 3mm IR pass filter sheets for about a fiver. Going to convert my 3million candle power monster torch into the mother of all IR illuminators. The theory being, if I am careful, I should be able to see rabbits eyes out to 1/2 mile
decroyffe
Hiya Pin, What you gonna do from 1/2 a mile away? I want your eyes please, and that sniper rifle you've got tucked in ya jacket
pin
Hadn't got that far yet with the thinking.. The plan is to be able to "lamp" where I am not allowed to lamp, or "lamp" where I am allowed but wouldn't because of the disturbance it might cause (by not allowed I mean I have permission but can't light up there). I'm a geek, its something worth trying for me I think, NV is still very new to me and I think the potential is somewhat scuppered because of the poor IR performance of the built-in lights. The more IR you get out there the clearer you will see and it should enhance the performance of the cheap gen1 units.
Ferretboy111
I agree, i think if we had a huge IR one could see hundreds of meters with it, if you can buy the IR plastic stuff to convert a lamp id give it a go! Alex
