motty
After last week's bag on the spring rape, i thought i would keep an eye on the field for my friend.... The pigeons took until Thursday to start turning up in numbers again. I told my mate. He invited me yesterday. The other side of the field we shot last Sunday was chosen, as the birds were mainly congregating there and the chance of finding the shot birds would be made easier, due to the significantly shorter crop on that side. We kicked off just before 10 and had them decoying in no time. The same defrosted dead birds that we used last week came out again, and the magnet again made an appearance. The pigeons didn't decoy quite as well as last week, because the wind direction meant that the birds on the main flightline had to go past us and then come back in. It wasn't a major problem, though. I shot quite poorly. I'm not sure why, but i probably averaged 2 shots to 1 bird.I kept missing simple overhead driven birds..I had a few left and rights, as did my mate, but it was him that had 2 birds with 1 shot this week. We doubted at about 3pm whether we would get another 100+. We must have had about 80 at the time. A hot spell followed and we retired happy at about 5pm, having knocked down 140. JDog
Another good day and well done for inviting yourself to shoot again! By the looks of it there is another two or even three weeks shooting on that poor and backward crop.

By the looks of it there is another two or even three weeks shooting on that poor and backward crop. You could be right, although i'm sure they've started to take an interest in some nearby cereals.
